In the early 1900s, a virus was created and introduced to the world as a way to control the ever-growing population. It had adverse affects… depending on who you talk to. The virus interfered with the protein synthesis of select individuals, causing drastic mutations in their genes, while the majority of the population only exhibited symptoms of the flu. These mutations manifested in individuals in a variety of ways. Some became able to manipulate the elements, while others fostered new animalistic qualities, or even teleportation. Anything you could think of.
In a world that struggled to accept anything that was different, it’s easy to figure out what happened next.
It took the world governments one look to see what was happening and change tact. Mutants were quickly isolated and brought into specialised labs, for the purpose of experimentation and understanding how they were apparently able to break the laws of physics.
After a few years, they were used in wars, with the promise that they’d be free men and women if they did their duty. The government kept their promise, and mutants ended up being able to live normal lives. At least, if normal included having restricted rights and constant fear of being attacked, something that continues to be prevalent even in modern times
Many of those original mutants went on to have children, and their children had children, and it was discovered that the mutated gene was able to be passed down through generations, though it was able to manifest differently in each individual.
In modern day, “mutants” make up ~5% of the worlds population, and though they are still unfairly persecuted, they have been slowly breaking ground in a quest for equal rights. A few countries around the world have established laws to protect these mutants, recognizing that their powers can be used to help humanity.
The worlds first high school for mutants has been established in New Zealand, hidden within Aoraki mountain. This school is to help young mutants learn to control their powers, with the intent for them to use their powers to benefit humankind. To become real-world superheroes.
Recently, mutants from around the world have been going missing, but there hasn’t been much news, or an attempt to find them. There’s mumbles of them being taken for some top-secret government project, but they’re just rumours. Right?

Mutant high school students! Superheroes! How fun! Powers can be anything you can think of: fire manipulation, turn into some sort of Hulk, puke bees, anything. However, if you want a character that dabbles with death or time, talk to me about it first please! Also, if you'd like to play an adult (a teacher/mentor/trainer), feel free to ask.
The Rules:

The Rules:
- No god-modding/power-playing
- No super OP characters. All powers have their strengths and weaknesses, and they're all high school kids so chances are they aren't super strong. Have fun developing their powers and strengths as the RP goes on!
- Try to give me notice if you know you'll be MIA and unable to post

February. Despite it being summer, snow was drifting down from the sky, taking it's place among the countless other flakes that blanketed Aorki mountain. Students were pouring out of the vans and cars that had driven them up to the school, bundled up in coats and scarves. It was a new school year, and it was easy to tell the new and old students apart. Old friends immediately found each other, releasing their suitcases to embrace in hugs before continuing to the school together, while the new students quickly found their way inside.
Inside, the students were instructed to leave their suitcases against the walls of the main entrance. The staff would bring their items to their rooms.
They congregated in the cafeteria, as they had in the previous years the school was open, taking seats in front of a large stage. On stage were the teachers, sitting patiently as they watched the young mutants take their places. In the centre was a tall, smartly dressed woman. Her dark eyes were hidden behind tinted half-moon glasses, and her lips were pursed as she took in all of the students, new and old.
"Good morning, students." Mrs. Bertrand's voice was loud and smooth, and the room quieted quickly. "Welcome to Aorki," she took a short pause before continuing, "here you will learn to hone the powers that you were gifted with to ultimately benefit the greater good. Here you are free to show your true selves, but remember that with great power comes great responsibility." Yes, she just quoted Spiderman. "While you may be allowed to learn and grow your power, you are not permitted to use your powers in ways that may seriously harm your classmates. Any sparring must be under supervision from your teachers," she rambled off a few more rules, clasping her tanned hands in front of her. "Failure to follow these rules will result in your expulsion from the school." She grinned, almost creepily, at the group of students sitting in front of her.
"Anyway," the principle released her grip and waved one of her hands as though swatting away a fly. "I'll be handing you over to Miss Sinclaire for more information. Have a good school year! And try not to die."
A younger woman stepped forward as the principle took her seat, and let out a rather awkward cough. "As many of the older students know, today will be orientation day. Grade 11s and 12s will be heading with Mr. Carthan," she gestured behind her to the tech teacher. "While grade 9s and 10s will be heading with Mr. Milizia," she gestured towards the physical education teacher. "You will be getting further instructions once you have reached your destinations. Please gather into your respective groups as quickly as possible." With those final words, a buzz of excitement quickly followed as students began talking, wondering what their orientation could possibly be.
