Conley Brothers

There was definitely a magic lock on the door. Especially after Spectra had been able to slip in. But perhaps the windows were safe. He wasn't worried about anyone trying to get in that way, too small for anyone...well any adult that is

Tim backed away from the lock before it triggered and looked around. A window? It was small, but large enough for them! Tim and Tam exchanged a silent communication, and Tam helped Tim reach the window. The small teen ran his hands along it, testing it before he tried to open it.

There was no enchantment and with a little effort could be opened.

So far nobody seemed to notice

Tim half tumbled in and quickly kept anything from falling or shifting. Outside, Tam slipped under the wagon to keep watch. Quickly and methodically, Tim began searching the wagon, starting with the floorboards. They had to be out as fast as possible, and they absolutely could not fall into the temptation of pocketing anything!

The twins and vlad were not as unobserved as they thought but they were xhoosing not to show themselves yet.

The box was in a compartment inside the footboard of his bed.

The inside was bigger than the out and there was much to be distracted by. Shelves full of strangers trinkets and potions. The chest at the end of the bed full of small wrapped packages and a glass case, enchanted, stacked with rolled up contracts

Tim finally found the magically enlarged compartment and almost whimpered out loud at the sight of all the goodies within. No! Be strong! The size discrepancy did not surprise him much considering nearly everyone except Vlad had some form of size alteration in their wagons. Tim cautiously reached down through the shelves, letting delicate fingers come close but not quite touch anything that seemed big enough for wings.

There! That box! A deep breath for hope, and Tim picked up the box.

The box itself was not enchanted and still hand bloody handprints on it and bits of burnt skin.

The lock was enchanted but that could be dealt with later

Tim noticed the blood and skin and swallowed hard. Suddenly, the treasures and glittery items no longer appealed. Tim lifted it out, closed the storage unit, and scampered to the window, rubbing away any traces that anyone had ever been there.

Tam crawled out from under the wagon and gave Tim a hand down, both of them running full-tilt for Claudius' cage. His cage still had not been moved from its proximity to Camilla's wagon, therefore was the closest point of safety. From there, they could head to Spectra's cage, but if anything was following them or had seen them, Claudius would intercept. Or at least they hoped he would. No one had had the time to run the plan past him.

Nobody gave chase but Camilla stepped put of her trailer about then, tying up her hair.

"Tim? Tam?" What are you boys up to?" She called to them, thankfully she hadn't seen where they had come from

"We have to go!" Tim called. "We have a..."
"Present for a friend!" Tam supplied.

Vlad spotted Camilla and stepped forward to intercept.

Camilla blinked "oh well alright.." she didn't further question the boys when she saw Vlad

"Good morning Vlad, the boys seem on a terrible hurry today" she noted. She seem4d different today. The last few days she had been more depressed and anxious but that was all gone now.

"Yes, well, everyone gets to be in a hurry when Adanya's tigers get out," Vlad said with a calm smile, studying her eyes. Oh dear... well, he might as well test his theory. "How is Claudius today?"

The twins, meanwhile, dove into Claudius' cage, startling him, but before he had a chance to really react, they blurted, "This is really important to hide!" and shoved it into his hands.

"What?" Claudius asked, bewildered. Then he frowned and sniffed the case. It smelled faintly familiar and of blood. "What are you two up to now?" he growled, eyes narrow.

"This is for Miss Spectra."
"It is really important!"
"Life or death."
"But it's locked!"
"Locked with magic."
Then they stopped and stared at Claudius intently.

Claudius leaned back, suddenly feeling the tingle of nervousness. "What?"

"You can break it!" they breathed.

Claudius looked down at the lock. "I do not think strength can break magic. Is that not the point of having a magic lock?"

But the twins were already shaking their heads. "No! You are not magic, and that is what will work!"
"Not just not magic, you are like..."
"Anti-magic!"
"Yes! All Mundanes have even the slightest glitter of magic-"
"Like how everything has radiation-"
"But you are like a black hole of magic!"
"If you try, you could short out the magic!"
"Maybe bleed on it?"
"Or scratch it?"

"Stop!" Claudius snapped, feeling dizzy with the twins' rapid-fire back and forth. He took a breath and let it out, a fire of irritation kindled in his belly. "Alright, I will try if it will get you to stop pestering me, but I do not think this will work." Even so, he reached out with one sharp nail and tried to pierce the lock. Nothing happened.

"No, no, reach inside and tap the bit that is not magic!" one of the twins said.

Claudius gave them a look that said they were both annoying and mad as hatters, but he closed his eyes and tried. He thought about that second presence deep inside. He thought about fire, of primal urges, of the fierce power that had flowed through him when he'd tried to help Camilla. He thought about... Dragons.

Camilla's brow furrowed "Claudius?" She repeated "don't think I've met him yet. Did my brother hire someone new?" She asked, clearly not remembering anything about him.

At first thr lock did nothing, just sat there harmlessly. But the twins theory proved correct. There was a snap and a crackle with a flash of light but the enchantment itself had been broken.

The lock itself snapped when the enchantment broke, in fact it exploded shooting out tiny bits of iron shrapnel

Vlad sighed softly then gave her a gentle smile. "I think you should read your diary if you have been keeping it up. Until then, I really need to go see how things are going with the big cats. Claudius is that way, if you wish to meet him again." He indicated the way then turned and walked quickly away to ensure a safe path to Spectra's cage.

The twins and Claudius both yelped in shock and pain as the lock exploded. Thankfully, the twins clothing protected them from most of it, but both received a few nicks on their cheeks, and Tim had a line of blood across the forehead. Claudius suffered the most as he was closer and wore only thin pants, but he did not notice the pain or the blood. He stared at the lock in utter shock.

"It worked!" he gaped.

"It worked!" the twins cheered. Then they took the case from him. "We have to get it to Spectra. Thank you, Claudius! Bye!"

And they were gone at top speed before he could say anything else. He sat with bits of metal and blood speckling his body, staring at nothing. Anti-magic? Dragons? He didn't know which was weirder.

Camilla blinked, confused she watched him go. Her diary? Trusting Vlad she stepped back inside.

Adanya was just getting her tigers rounded up again. Wanting to reign them in before the new security decide to take more drastic measures. She hoped it had been enough time

Tim and Tam scurried through the shadows, well aware that they were not the only ones familiar with the shadows. They just had to reach Spectra's cage!

Elsewhere, Kazimir was doing what he did best and was making an absolute arse of himself and creating a scene as he playfully chases and was chased by one of the lions while Keith kept getting cornered or circled by them both. Kazimir was absolutely unavoidable as he ran around where the majority of the security people were, only calming when Adanya called to the tiger.

That was the diversion the twins needed, and they slipped up to the small cage, pushing the box inside.

When spectra saw them coming with the box she could hardly believe it. They had done it!

She tried to touch the box when they pushed it in but of course it burned. She still tried to get it open though with the deformed hand, using thr bandage as a barrier as best she could. Desperate and determined, she got the to fall open. And there wrapped in delicate silk were her wings. They looked clear and a little dull but she reached in and touched them. They at once began to glow. The brightness increasing to blinding, shifting colors and the magic around them grew very strong

Tim and Tam's eyes widened in awe. "Wings!" they breathed. "You... you're a fairy?" They looked at the chain around her neck. "But what about that? Can you break it now that you have your wings?"

As if to answer them. The cuff snapped and fell apart like it were nothing but brittle glass.

"Stand back boys" she said aoftly, able to speak now

The twins scrambled back, staring at Spectra in genuine awe. They held each other's hands, tense, frightened, and excited!
