Riders of Scavenger Island

@Azathoth

Flying above the settlement, Blitz felt invigorated by the food in her stomach and flew with speeds only matched by the fastest of fliers. Static was in the air, as electricity crackled off her back. Around the settlement, there was a herd of Buffalords, a previously thought extinct species grazing near the settlement. The beasts seem to not notice the commotion above them nor did they seem to care. They just kept grazing without a care in the world.

Slode grunted as his body hit the floor, the large man quickly righting himself as he and the beast stared down once more. He was... not exactly happy to note that it was still capable of lighting the gas. But before he could figure out his next tactic, the zippleback... lowered it’s head?

Now don’t get him wrong. He had seen this before, but usually when dragons do this it was after gentle love and care, or proving one’s loyalty. All the two of them had done was bear each other down. This was new territory. Uncertain.

Slowly, steadily, the man approaches the Zippleback. Raisin free his arms, he slowly, slowly, inches them towards the heads of the beast, palms open.

Ren inched forward when the dragon lowered its head in submission or ready to strike. Judging by the look in its eye she figured it was the former. "Just stay right here..." She dared to reach out and pat its nose with her small hand before nodding. "Hang on. This might not feel too great. Being shot it pretty awful. I would know." Walking carefully around the dragon, she took a deep breath and grabbed the arrow with both hands pulling it clean out. The force of removing the arrow sent her back onto her butt, landing hard on the dirt.

Slode reached out with his hand, but suddenly without warning, the dragon grabbed said hand, without harming him him, and flings Slode onto its back. The Zippleback then immediately takes off into the air, flying as fast as it can to see if the Viking is able to hold on. The beast climbed higher and higher and higher, until the villagers weren't even in sight anymore. They made it past the cloudline and the dragon stops, allowing Slode to catch his breathe as both heads turned around to see how the Viking was doing.

The moment she pulled out the arrow, the dragon lets out a hard roar and lit itself in a rage. It swung its tail and strikes Ren in the abdomen and throws her across the floor with its massive strength. It had thought she had tried to harm it and prepared to send out a stream of flames onto its foe, but when it puts pressure on its leg, it didn't feel pain, or at least not much. It looked back to see that the Viking had taken out the arrow which was in her hand. The Nightmare walked up to Ren and examines her, poking her with its nose and arms to see if she was still alive after the strike. There was an obvious look of regret in its eyes.

“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!” Was the only thing to come out of Slode’s mouth the moment the Zippleback took off, the man clinging on with all his might to the shoulders of the beast as his cheeks billowed due to the force of the wing around him.

His screams steadily rose in pitch and volume until they hit the clouds, where it wasn’t interrupted by coughing as the vapour entered his lungs. When the duo pierced the cloud however, instead of resuming his screaming, Slode found himself entranced by the sight before him.

It was so... peaceful. Quiet. Just him, the dragon and the sun. Slowly, his death-grip weakened upon the dragon’s shoulders as he took in the sight before him, letting his reverie show clear on his face to the dragon.

The Zippleback lets Slode take in the sights, waiting for the Viking to let down his guard before immediately taking a dive straight towards the earth, letting gravity increase its speed little by little until it was moving faster then it was ascending. The Zippleback wanted to see if the Viking would crack or let go at any point. It wasn't worried as it could simply slow down at any point. If anything the only one in danger was Slode.

The whole thing seemed rather odd to Freydis, but she would take any chance to find herself a dragon. Even though she was excited, she was a bit slow to follow after the group as they left the building and made their way toward the nesting grounds. Ren went off with the young Druid, and Slode seemed to just run off into the forest without a care in the world.

To say she was nervous was an understatement. From what she'd seen, the Terrible Terrors were dangerous enough. Imagine bigger dragons.

The palms of her hands were clammy and she debated whether or not to stay behind and just learn from the dragons already in the village, but if the others could do it, certainly she could too. She clenched her fists, dirty finger nails pressing into her sweaty skin, and trudged into the forest, unsure of what she would find.

“YOU REPTILE BA-“ Was all Slode was able to get out before the dragon’s dive had him resume his death-grip, legs now joining it as they wrap around the side of the large beast, holding on for dear life out of sheer panic as he tried to heave the body of the dragon upwards and towards a more horizontal plane.

Silently he swore that if he died he would expend his Valhalla ticket to haunt this animal.

In the forest, Freydis had attracted the attention of a young dragon that was sneaking around looking for a snack. The dragon matched its environment perfectly as it skulk around Freydis, making examining the being that intruded on its territory with interest. The dragon walked like a spider, crawling close and low to the trees and ground as it made its way closer to the viking female. Soon Freydis comes across what looks to be an empty nest as there are multicolored egg shell pieces and red skin strung around the nest.

Right before they hit the ground, the Zippleback opens up its wings and slows down its descent just enough allow the Dragon to land without causing any harm to itself or its rider. The two heads looked back and the rider and came closer, to see if the Rider was still alive. They wanted to see if Slode had passed the test.

Slode’s grip did not waver this time, not until the man registered he wary beneath the Zippleback’s feet. With shuddering breaths, he looks up towards where the heads were, only to meet their eyes with a fierce determination to not be defeated by the dragon before him. He would handle whatever else it threw at him, in order to become its rider.

Naturally, Freydis was jumping at any sort of sound that the forest produced. Her hand grasped at a hard, woven cross-body bag, taking peace in knowing that she had all sorts of herbs in there that could potentially help her. Even dragonnip. She wasn't quite sure what it would do, but Hiccup had told her that it tended to make dragons a bit friendlier back when they were on Berk, so she was glad to have some.

She was completely unaware of anything following her, despite being on high alert, and soon she came across something that looked like a nest. The young scholar blinked at it, taking a few moments to realize that there were pieces of egg shells and skin tossed around the nest. A normal person would have gone running, but of course, her curiosity sent her padding a few more steps towards the dirty nest. "It seems like they were eaten?" She rubbed her chin, kneeling down slightly to get a better look, while still making sure to stay a couple feet back in case some angry mother came back.

The Zippleback was rather surprised that the Viking held on. The heads looked at each other and did what seemed to be communicating before nudging Slode to get him to sit up at least. They don't seem to be hostile but instead more affectionate and accepting of Slode.

@Ailis

Freydis had a nasty surprise when behind her shouted a Changewing as it rammed into her back, launching her into the nest and causing her to land on the shells, coating her in the slime of the eggs. The Changewing growled and moved towards the nest with its head raised high while it moved closer to Freydis. The Dragon put its head right in front of Freydis's face, breathing heavily as she could feel the hot air blowing in and out of its nostrils.

@ChelonianCommander

Something crashed into Freydis' back, causing a shockwave of pain up her spine as she was shot forward into the nest. The remaining parts of the egg shells were crushed from her body weight, but still dug into her uncomfortably. Despite the pain, she wasted no time flipping onto her butt to come face to face with her attacker, choosing not to jump to her feet in fear that excessive movement would prompt it to attack again.

Her eyes peered into the dangerous ones of a horned red dragon. It's breath buffeted against her face, making her painfully away of how close it's sharp maw was to her. She blinked at the dragon, choosing to stay completely still to try to portray that she was not a threat. The dragonnip in her bag shot to her mind, but she didn't want to reach in to get it. Any movement could potentially make the dragon attack her.

@Ailis

The dragon takes a deep breathe with a look of murder in its eyes, but once it took that one last breath it blinks and its eyes turned from murder to a motherly affection. The dragon began to lick off the egg slime off Freydis's body like how a wolf would lick its pup. It lowers its head into the nest and a group of four green baby change wings revealed themselves as they climbed off their mother's back and into the nest, gathering around their new sibling. They sniffed and climbed over their strange sister as the mother flew off somewhere leaving them alone.

Slode sat up slowly, aided by the Zippleback, as he slowly realised his grip upon its shoulders. Eventually his breathing settled, and he found himself smiling, just a little, at the dragon.

Noting the change in attitude, he once again raised both arms towards the seperate heads, palms out in a gesture of alliance.

@TheGreenerGrey

The dragon looked at Slode with both its heads and when the Viking reached out with his hands the dragon closed its four eyes and didn't hesitate to press it heads against the Viking's palms. This Viking has proven itself worthy enough to ride it.

The flight on Blitz was exhilarating, Garm had never felt more alive, the passing buffalords made him grin at Blitz. The static in the air made his hair stand up and his heart race with excitement. "That's it girl, let's test your limits. After this I promise you your own deer to eat." He said to her. The offer of food excited Blitz and she soared skyward higher and higher, once reaching an acceptable level, she dove, Garm held on for everything he was worth a grin plastered on his face as the speeds increased.
Nearing the ground, Blitz angled back up and slowed to a near stop. Angling her head back she looked to her rider, both looking at each other with a look of enjoyment.
"Head towards that patch of woods, it's time for us to hunt." He said and Blitz obliged, angling to to the woods she flew over at a much more leisurely pace.

Ren felt a distinct crack in her side as she flew through the air and landed hard yards away. She rolled in the dirt, bumping her head on the ground as she came to a stop with the arrow still clutched in her hand. Unconsciousness engulfed her from the sheer force of the attack. Only a nudge from the dragon's nose made her twitch awake to throbbing ribs, a bleeding head, and a teal snout in her lap. "Uhg," she coughed, which only sent stabs of pain up her side, "You've got some nerve smacking me with that tail...I like people with guts." One hand clutched at her broken ribs and the other reached up to the creature's nose. If it had wanted to eat her, it could have done so while she was out cold.

The sun set quickly and night was in a few minutes. At that time a black cloud rolled in, a black swarm of dragons similar to Terrible Terrors but had a more barrel shaped body and axe like heads. These Night Terrors were on the hunt for prey, using their swarm to find and hunt down prey. They flew past the Skrill looking for scraps or even live game. However they headed to the coast where a woman standing next to a green Gronkle was dumping out baskets of fish for the Swarming Dragons. The woman smiles at a job well done before looking up towards the sky to see Garm and Blitz. She waves at them in an unspoken greeting.

The dragon retreats back a bit when Ren held out her hand, but didn't run away. It was just a bit spooked at first but calmed right after. It looked at the wounded viking and as she held out her open palm, the Monstrous Nightmare closed its eyes and pressed its snout on her hand, giving her its trust. Afterwards the dragon began to lick the bleeding head clean, in order to help Ren as much as she can. It was startled when it hears the bushes move and it was even more startled when Theoc and Scarwing revealed themselves. The dragon moved into a defensive posture, outstreching its wings to make itself look bigger but Theoc stayed back while Scarwing stayed close behind. The young Druid spoke in a hushed tone.

"Easy Dragon. I don't want to harm you or your new Rider. I can help her, but you need to trust me. I'm not going to take her away." He tells the dragon and the Monstrous Nightmare looked back at Ren before moving aside. Theoc bowed his head in thanks to the dragon and goes over to pick up Ren. "She's hurt but not dead. Nothing a little Buffalord saliva can't heal." He mutters before setting Ren on Scarwing and getting on himself. The Nadder takes off towards the village with the Nightmare following close behind.

Garm upon seeing the woman wave, smiled and patted Blitz, "Detour girl, then hunting, promise." He said. He got an unseen eye roll from Blitz as she angles towards the woman.
Blitz lands near the woman, and Garm slides off. Blitz really wanted some fish and kept eyeing the fish, but knew better food would be coming. Garm approaches the woman with a friendly wave. "Hello there."
