Stahlhiem: College of Magic (Rebooted!) IC

Headmaster Arnest - Personal Office

Several days after the incident with Thal, the Headmaster had been going through stacks of paperwork left and right. Some were political papers that he needed to finish to make sure the college weren't in too much trouble, while many were handwritten letters of complaints from other provinces about the ramifications of his students' actions that he needed to make handwritten apologies to. This didn't get any better however as he hears his assistant knock on the door. He sighs, removing his mask for a breath period in order to rub his weary eyes. "Yes Master Page. I am very busy." He says

"I am sorry to interrupt Headmaster, but an emissary from House Rando has come over to speak with you." Said Master Page

"Of course they are." The Headmaster thought. He places the mask back on his face before answer. "Send them in Master Page." He continues to work and a few seconds later an extravagantly dressed Night Verdantkin, escorted by two guards equipped in wrapped in blue and gold and carrying weapons made of red and ivory metal. The Headmaster stands to face the emissary head on, trying to intimidate the dignitary, but the Verdantkin's arrogance kept him from fearing the Headmaster.

"Headmaster, I presume." Started the Verdantkin. "My name is Amhas, diplomat of House Rando. I am here to speak to you about an incident that had happened a few days ago that has come to my House's attention."

"I assume you mean the incident of when Thal of House Rando was severly injured when he attacked several students and one of the teachers? Yes I have been...busy dealing with the ramifications of the attack." The Headmaster replied

"Injured? Mr. Waltherus,...that is your surname is it not, in the eyes of you and the rest of your college that is what everyone sees, but what we see is rather different. Now I do believe you understand the political situation of my dear Verdanthome do you not, being a Province Governor and all?"

"To my knowledge Verdanthome is in political turmoil. There is just as much infighting and civil warring as the Border Empire during the War of 9 kings. What of it? Are you afraid House Rando might lose influence within Verdanthome? Don't you have enough military power to punish all decent against you?"

"Well of course Headmaster, but as you can assume, one of our Princes being...assaulted by not one, but an entire group of your students...will look poorly on our House. If we let this event go unpunished then it will be a sign of Weakness and despite how large out military may be, we are in located in the heart of Verdanthome and are in no position for a war on two fronts." Amhas replied

"I see....according to the reports provided by the Void Born at the scene and the Teacher, Thal-"

"-Was simply making conversation with a fellow kinsmen and was attacked by the other students hoping to steal whatever valubles he might have on him, all under the eyes of the Teacher a Wastelander who was still bitter about the Verdantkin's march into the Northern Wastes. Yes I know what happened." Amhas replied for the headmaster before taking out a pouch of gems and a rolled up piece of paper. "That is what happened was it not?" Amhas quickly realized what the diplomat was up to. He opens up the letter and began to read. Every so often he would glance up at Amhas's proud eyes, and when he was done he turned to the pouch, pulling out a palm sized blue sapphire.

"Extravagant. Any normal man would gladly give up land, land and life to acquire stones of these qualities...all this. Just to put some children in their place?" Asks the Headmaster

"In a sense. I wish you simply remove the participating students from the college. I shall fill in the new gaps with bright young minds from the other Houses to solidify my power. I believe that shall benefit both of us."

"I see..." Said Arnest and he crushes both the letter and the gem in his hands, bewildering the diplomat. The headmaster could spoke with a calm anger that shocked Amhas. "Do not believe that I am some cheap mayor that you can bribe with shiny rocks. I am the Province Governor Arnest Waltherus and I demand that I you leave my province and don't come back until you have something worth discussing. I bid you good day sir." Amhas was nontheless shocked. He recomposed himself however, as he resorted to plan B.

"I regret that you think that way. How about my second offer then?<Guards. On him>" Said Amhas and the two guards lowered their weapons preparing to fight. The Headmaster simply threw the blue sapphire dust into the bodyguard's eyes, blinding them causing them to cough. The Headmaster's eyes flashed for but a second and the dust began to shake and clump together and turn into a swarm of sapphire ants. The ants began to crawl and bite the guards, all the while choking them as some of the gem ants had formed in their lungs and lungs. Eventually the Verdantkin guards began to cry and scream in terror as the Headmaster spoke to the terrified diplomat.

"I am not just a Governor, but a teacher and an educator of young minds. I teach children how to put their magic to use, to benefit the world, while you sit in your wooden towers, licking your wounds after you attempted genocide against innocent people, and you have the audacity to demand that I would damn no only my staff, but my students as well? I shall repeat myself, I am Province Novgorod Arnest Waltherus, Headmaster of the Border Empire College of Magic, Master Mage of summoning and I shall not be bribed in order to save your precious little ego!" There was a snap as the gem ants had worked together to break the necks of the Verdantkin guards and they continued their attack as they swarmed over a rightfully terrified Amhas, who tried to brush them off in vain. Suddenly the ants turn back into dust. Amhas was relieved for only a second as he found himself face to face with the headmaster. "Leave. My. City." He ordered and the diplomat complied, leaving the office with his head down in shame and fear. Master Page entered soon after.

"Headmaster, Diplomat Amhas just ran by did..." She saw the two bodies and the tired Arnest, who is barely looked at her. Understanding what has happened she simply decided to drop the topic. "I'll...send for a team of soldiers to clean the bodies Headmaster. Will there be anything else?"

"No...no Assist- Page...I murdered two good men, and scared off the dignitary of a powerful House, all to save the life of a pregnant mother and several children. Now I wonder...did I do the right thing...or did I just doomed this city."

(Time Skip. A week has gone by.)

Audrey sits in her seat drawling the tattoo. She has made the mark thirty or forty times, not because of some need to see but to insure accuracy. She barely listens to the Master. Her mind is consumed.

Simon - First Year Classroom

Simon decides to have Coro sit near him to teach her easier. He alternately points at his book and the board while giving a smile "This says In this world, magic had always been there, lingering in the air and carried in by the winds just tell me which letter and words you can remember Ok" He had been very busy most of the week working on the proper bindings and runes for his conduit as well as testing the creation of conduits with some random material which exploded into horrible screams more often than not. Simon However had also been spending a lot of his free time teaching Coro how to read which pleasantly to his surprise was going well. He had also done his best to mention specific plants he might need in their conversations to peak her interest in them. He was nervous though a pit forming in his stomach while one of his hands nervously gripes the painted stone pendant in his pocket.

Mikida- First Year Classroom

Over the course of a week, Mikida manages to cause plenty of mischief. Much to the chagrin of her teacher, her behavior doesn't get better. Mikida never takes notes during class, never brings any of her materials, and often falls asleep during class. However, whenever assessed, Mikida made a splash in the class by revealing her prodigal ability. Mikida's magic was already fully under her control, and at the level of a master despite her young age. In addition, she proved to know a surprising amount about magical theory despite her lack of attention in class.

Yet, this did nothing to improve her relationship with the teacher, who Mikida now actively avoided to whatever degree possible. Mikida decides to buffer her presence behind Simon and Coro as to have someone worthy of attention between the teacher and herself. Laying her head on her desk, Mikida lets out a big sigh before taking a pre-class catnap. Wrapping her arms onto the table, she lifts her head and places it back on her bended elbow, looking forward towards the book that Simon was dictating. She seems as expressionless as ever.

Emi -Class room-:
*Sitting in class room in the back looking over all my conduits having made, tempered and channeled my magic through each to see which felt right* I choose the bracelet Woven of ever always cold gold, iron, Red sapphire tinted with strange foreign gems infused with fire to balance out the conduits components. I sit in my chair staring at the home made bracelet (made by my own craftsmanship).

Tashunka - 1st year class room

Tashunka sat in his usual set in the middle row of the class examining his conduit. Tashunka had spent most of the last week working on his conduit, perfecting every detail so that it not only looked amazing but also functioned properly. Although he had spent days working on perfecting his conduit Tashunka was still afraid something was going to go wrong and he would fail his first assignment.

Borghild -1st Year Class

The Master Death Mage teaches the class basic ways to help channel their magic and other such tidbits. Halfway through the class however, she was interrupted however when the door opens up and two Verdantkin guards escorted a bandaged Thal into the room. The Verdankin Prince limps into the now quiet room. Thal takes his seat in one of the empty front seats and his bodyguards closes the door, leaving the Prince alone with the students and teacher. Borghild was rather surprised but she kept her calm and continued on with the lesson.

Mikida- First Year Class

Seeing Thal enter the room, Mikida changes strategies, immidiately moving seats to sit right next to Thal. Given the suddenness of the movement, it was difficult to ascertain exactly what motivated Mikida's actions, but it could definitely be said that it was deliberate.

coro-First year class room

Coro had spent most of last week working on learning how to read as well as working on her conduit that is a small twig with leaves that dont seem to be dieing. Coro pays close attention to what simon was saying and attempted to read it. "Ummm this is a o right?" Coro points to an a. "I cant remember any of the words just a few letters.." Coro looks over to the door when it opens and sees thal enter the room with guards. 'What a shame... hes not dead.' 'Maybe he will be different now??' Coro gos back to trying to read the words and paying attention to what the teacher says.

Simon - First Year Classroom

Simon's smile twitched when he saw the elf prince escorted by two armored guards "haha Right" He laughs nervously " Sorry about that Coronaria I guess I maybe rushing you. It's your own fault anyway what with you being such a good student I guess I got carried away " Hm "Yep that's an o" Simon tried his best to keep up his smile but he saw the shift in Coro when Thal entered the room In fact he felt the whole room change atmosphere becoming colder more quite.

Simon listens to the lecture while answering any questions Coro has trying to ignore the bandaged elf but every once in a while he would steal a glance at Thal "This isn't good" He thinks "I barely remember what happened that night but I think I may have done something to piss him off. " He shakes his head "Doesn't matter if I did do anything though that boy is crazy I might need to find out handle him soon assuming his tantrums are a regular thing. Can't act know though need to learn more then make a strategy". When Master Wijk had her back turned to write something on the board Simon leaned close to Coro "Hey Coronaria I think I might need to study up on some things in the library can we meet up there instead. Hope that's not to much of a bother"

Borghild, Thal - 1st Year Classroom

Borghild continued her lesson. The air within the room feels as if it began to freeze as she can feel the Prince's aura of pent up anger and frustration consume the atmosphere. Thal himself wasn't doing much better as a deep hatred boils within him not just for the common students of the lesser races but for his weak kinsmen who refused to help him put the mutant and her followers in their rightful place.

Emi - class room-:
*I stand up as Thal enters walking over to the seat to his right* He doesn't look good... *snickers slightly as I take my new seat before leaning over to whisper into his ear* "Don't be so sour looking...you might scare them off my oh so imperious leader" *I do a mock bow from the waist while in my seat* "Do not look up to you but I do look down...and this, this is a first because I could usually care less but you...YOU make me tick" *I take a deep breath before I continue* "But still I wish to say sorry for inflicting wounds and injuries to your person" *My face heats up although I'm glad he can't see the effect he in directly has on me by just being here...I had never had a people before I saw him that day...

Thal, Borghild - 1st Year Classroom

Thal didn't scream, he didn't strike Emi at her words. He simply leaned back and whispered into her ear. "Do not think I haven't learned many things about you half-breed. If you wish for your mother's safety I would recommend that you hold your tongue and remember your place."

Borghild continued her lesson and 2/3s of the way through the class she needed to lighten the mood. She clears her throat and turns to address the class.

"Now everyone I do think we are done for today. Now I hope you haven't forgotten your project. Usually you would just turn it in and I would examine them afterwards, but I think it would be lovely for everyone to show off the Conduits they have created today." She proclaimed with false excitement. "Anyone wish to start?" Several students raise their hands and Borghild looked around for someone to choose.

Tashunka - 1st year classroom

Tashunka jumped up at the chance to show off his pipe. "I do," Thresh replied to Broghild's request. Stepping to the front of the class room Tashunka with drew his conduit for all to see. "My conduit is a ceremonial smoking pipe," Tashunka started to explain his conduit, "I made it using fine leather and a mix of beads and feathers." Setting the tip of his index finger on fire Tashunka lit the pipe and demonstrated that it actually worked. Then he demonstrated how his magic could flow through it by creating a great flame with it. "That's about it," Tashunka finished heading back to his seat.

Simon - First Year Classroom

Simon slowly rose from his chair and quietly walks his way over to the front. He swallowed a lump in his throat "I need to keep this brief and vague" he thinks. He does his best to brighten his face and smile facing the class "Well this is my conduit" He pulls his hand out off his pocket griping at a palm sized object covering most of it with his grasp except for a brown string hanging from his hand "It's an amulet. Yeah I know not very original but I worked kinda hard of it so yeah" at the back of his mind Simon felt distraught at having done so much work researching specific runes and making his own colored Ink mixture to etch into the stone.

Simon walks to Master Wijk and briefly flashes her the palm sized stone heart with two large runes in purple that stood for Hope(ᛞ) and Strength of will(ᚢ) on the center atop of each other while a ring of smaller minor runes circled the two painted bigger runes written in blue. Simon had mixed some etching acid he had with flower dye he made he also poured powdered bone in. If the Teacher looked closely she would have noticed that the string was not string and was actually dried sinew.

Simon make his way back to his chair "Damn" he thinks to himself "Need to keep my hand a secret can't have too many people know what little I can do at least not now"

Audrey 1st Classroom

Audrey leaves her seat and walks to the front of the class. She raises her right hand; on her wrist sits a silver and amethyst bracelet. The contrast between silver and purple resembles a dark shadow fighting moonlight rays. The stone is uncut save for a small facet on surface facing Audrey.

“I chose a bracelet,” she speaks just above a whisper, “because healers should have their hands empty during surgery.”

Audrey hands the Master her bracelet. Master Wijk looks disappointed with the focus and hands it back. Audrey returns to her seat without looking at a single face.

Mikida had considered waiting until everyone else presented, as could be seen by the fact she had waited quite some time to even produce her conduits. However, for one reason or another, Mikida decided now would be a good time to demonstrate. Producing both a book and an apple, Mikida walks forward towards Master Wijk. Mikida throws her apple high into the air in an arc that would end halfway between her and Master Wijk. In this brief interval, Mikida utilizes her book conduit to transform into a 21 year old version of herself. As she does she breaks into a sprint, her speed increases to that of the typical college student, allowing her to catch the apple as she shifts the book into a position between her neck and hood. Although this only slows the fall of the book as it descends down Mikida's shirt, she utilizes the apple conduit to make Audrey appear like a male version of herself briefly as she crosses. Then, a mere step before Master Wijk, she quickly twirls around, causing the book that was falling down her shirt to arc upward and outward. Diving for the book as her original young-girl form, she catches the book while tumbling, ending the obviously over the top display by messing up her dismount and landing flat on her butt.

Seemingly satisfied, Mikida brushes herself off and hands over both conduits to her teacher. She didn't have anything to say about why everything else was necessary. Instead, she ended the fanfare anticlimactically by simply returning to her deck. She smiles at Thal on her way back. This might be the first time anyone here has seen Mikida smile.

Emi -class room-:
*I look at Thal and whisper into his ear again* "I have no wish to insult you or threaten your life...and I have no mother so keep whatever you think you know about me...to yourself"
I watch as they go up I have an earring of black obsidian in my ear and the bracelet on my wrist but the conduit I choose to let them know of is a white rose that never withers. *I stand up moving with purpose until I reach the front of the room,I stand still as a breeze starts to blow softly and then I push the rose in front of me and as it is at a stand still it is infused with light and then it begins to flicker between pink, black and white it then seems to expand and becomes a wooden staff with the rose head flowering from it* The staff is the length of my body. *I lift it in an arch above my head leaving a trail of mesmerizing colors behind me,It looks as if I'm dancing as I twirl and then I stop. I lift my head as my eyes shine from the suppressed power in my staff as I then let the light harden into a golden snake which then coils around my staff* I pass it to professor Wijk. "I do hope you enjoyed my presentation professor" *I do a slight show of respect with a curtsy as she inspects it* *I go to take my seat waiting for her to hand it back*

Borghild, Thal - 1st Classroom

One by one she lets the students go up to introduce their conduits and those who didn't to show off their new conduits she left well alone as she still need to collect them at the end of the class day. After the last willing student has went, she felt as if she wasn't able to brighten up the room. She thought the reason was because of Thal's new bodyguards. Two armored soldiers watching their every move from the corner of their eyes, made her feel nervous and she could feel that that some of the students felt the same way. To alleviate this she decided to hold that week's class slightly earlier then she would've liked.

"Now class, that we're familiar with near everyone's new Conduits, it is time for us to learn how to channel your first spells." She said, putting on a false sense of excitement and joy. She motions for the class to stand up and leads the class to the dueling hall. Unfortunate for her Thal's bodyguards had followed them there as well. However she was brought some relief as in the Dueling Hall are a half-dozen Void Born Guards on standby.

Borghild, Thal - Dueling Hall

The Dueling hall is a large expansive hexagonal room made of grey smooth stone. On the floor are 10 moderately sized circles fitted with enchantments and sigils that can be activated to create a powerful shield to prevent overzealous mages from injuring those outside the circle. Borghild leads the students to one of the circles nearest to the wall, and more importantly nearest to a guard.

"Now Students, we shall learn about basic defense magic. Using some of her magic she conjures up a skeletal warrior inside the dueling circle. "Now the spell I shall teach you is a very simple one that all Mages can learn and pick up on rather easily. She steps into the circle and points at the Skeleton. The Spell is known as Arcane Bolt. With her words a single powerful bolt of chaotic magic strikes the Skeleton, causing it to crumble. She quickly raises it again using her magic. Now to use it one force a serge of pure magic through your body and into your conduit, and if you can visulize it clearly enough you will be able to fire off an Arcane Bolt without much problem. Also while it is not nessisary to shout out spell's name every time, it helps some mages focus on what they wish to do. Now everyone just line up, step in one by one and try several times at the skeleton warrior until you get the hang of it." The students lined up, stepping in one at a time then attempting to cast Arcane Bold. Some managed it on their first try, others took 2 or 3, but all were able to eventually cast it with little issue.

Simon - Dueling Hall

Simon watches the students going before him trying his best to remember faces and try to find their general aptitude when it comes magic. Once it was his turn he makes his way in front of the skeleton and takes a deep breath. He pulls the pendant from his neck then aims his closed fist the skeleton "Arcane Bolt" He whispers then a black orb the size of a small stone flies from his fist. The stone shrinks as it travels until it is only the size of a pebble doing nothing to the skeleton when it hits. A few chuckles are made at the weak display of magic from the crowd. Simon grabs his head and hobbles away from the circle looking light headed and sick. Once he makes his way back to the crowd though his eyes become clear as he starts watching the others take their turn.
