Headmaster Arnest - Personal Office
Several days after the incident with Thal, the Headmaster had been going through stacks of paperwork left and right. Some were political papers that he needed to finish to make sure the college weren't in too much trouble, while many were handwritten letters of complaints from other provinces about the ramifications of his students' actions that he needed to make handwritten apologies to. This didn't get any better however as he hears his assistant knock on the door. He sighs, removing his mask for a breath period in order to rub his weary eyes. "Yes Master Page. I am very busy." He says
"I am sorry to interrupt Headmaster, but an emissary from House Rando has come over to speak with you." Said Master Page
"Of course they are." The Headmaster thought. He places the mask back on his face before answer. "Send them in Master Page." He continues to work and a few seconds later an extravagantly dressed Night Verdantkin, escorted by two guards equipped in wrapped in blue and gold and carrying weapons made of red and ivory metal. The Headmaster stands to face the emissary head on, trying to intimidate the dignitary, but the Verdantkin's arrogance kept him from fearing the Headmaster.
"Headmaster, I presume." Started the Verdantkin. "My name is Amhas, diplomat of House Rando. I am here to speak to you about an incident that had happened a few days ago that has come to my House's attention."
"I assume you mean the incident of when Thal of House Rando was severly injured when he attacked several students and one of the teachers? Yes I have been...busy dealing with the ramifications of the attack." The Headmaster replied
"Injured? Mr. Waltherus,...that is your surname is it not, in the eyes of you and the rest of your college that is what everyone sees, but what we see is rather different. Now I do believe you understand the political situation of my dear Verdanthome do you not, being a Province Governor and all?"
"To my knowledge Verdanthome is in political turmoil. There is just as much infighting and civil warring as the Border Empire during the War of 9 kings. What of it? Are you afraid House Rando might lose influence within Verdanthome? Don't you have enough military power to punish all decent against you?"
"Well of course Headmaster, but as you can assume, one of our Princes being...assaulted by not one, but an entire group of your students...will look poorly on our House. If we let this event go unpunished then it will be a sign of Weakness and despite how large out military may be, we are in located in the heart of Verdanthome and are in no position for a war on two fronts." Amhas replied
"I see....according to the reports provided by the Void Born at the scene and the Teacher, Thal-"
"-Was simply making conversation with a fellow kinsmen and was attacked by the other students hoping to steal whatever valubles he might have on him, all under the eyes of the Teacher a Wastelander who was still bitter about the Verdantkin's march into the Northern Wastes. Yes I know what happened." Amhas replied for the headmaster before taking out a pouch of gems and a rolled up piece of paper. "That is what happened was it not?" Amhas quickly realized what the diplomat was up to. He opens up the letter and began to read. Every so often he would glance up at Amhas's proud eyes, and when he was done he turned to the pouch, pulling out a palm sized blue sapphire.
"Extravagant. Any normal man would gladly give up land, land and life to acquire stones of these qualities...all this. Just to put some children in their place?" Asks the Headmaster
"In a sense. I wish you simply remove the participating students from the college. I shall fill in the new gaps with bright young minds from the other Houses to solidify my power. I believe that shall benefit both of us."
"I see..." Said Arnest and he crushes both the letter and the gem in his hands, bewildering the diplomat. The headmaster could spoke with a calm anger that shocked Amhas. "Do not believe that I am some cheap mayor that you can bribe with shiny rocks. I am the Province Governor Arnest Waltherus and I demand that I you leave my province and don't come back until you have something worth discussing. I bid you good day sir." Amhas was nontheless shocked. He recomposed himself however, as he resorted to plan B.
"I regret that you think that way. How about my second offer then?<Guards. On him>" Said Amhas and the two guards lowered their weapons preparing to fight. The Headmaster simply threw the blue sapphire dust into the bodyguard's eyes, blinding them causing them to cough. The Headmaster's eyes flashed for but a second and the dust began to shake and clump together and turn into a swarm of sapphire ants. The ants began to crawl and bite the guards, all the while choking them as some of the gem ants had formed in their lungs and lungs. Eventually the Verdantkin guards began to cry and scream in terror as the Headmaster spoke to the terrified diplomat.
"I am not just a Governor, but a teacher and an educator of young minds. I teach children how to put their magic to use, to benefit the world, while you sit in your wooden towers, licking your wounds after you attempted genocide against innocent people, and you have the audacity to demand that I would damn no only my staff, but my students as well? I shall repeat myself, I am Province Novgorod Arnest Waltherus, Headmaster of the Border Empire College of Magic, Master Mage of summoning and I shall not be bribed in order to save your precious little ego!" There was a snap as the gem ants had worked together to break the necks of the Verdantkin guards and they continued their attack as they swarmed over a rightfully terrified Amhas, who tried to brush them off in vain. Suddenly the ants turn back into dust. Amhas was relieved for only a second as he found himself face to face with the headmaster. "Leave. My. City." He ordered and the diplomat complied, leaving the office with his head down in shame and fear. Master Page entered soon after.
"Headmaster, Diplomat Amhas just ran by did..." She saw the two bodies and the tired Arnest, who is barely looked at her. Understanding what has happened she simply decided to drop the topic. "I'll...send for a team of soldiers to clean the bodies Headmaster. Will there be anything else?"
"No...no Assist- Page...I murdered two good men, and scared off the dignitary of a powerful House, all to save the life of a pregnant mother and several children. Now I wonder...did I do the right thing...or did I just doomed this city."
