"Oh, magic is all over the place where I come from! I mean...not everyone can use it," (she sure couldn't...) "but it's as regular as Pegasi! I really couldn't imagine living in a world without that stuff...how do you get by in your world?" A world without magic must be frightfully dull...

"And I'm sure you'll find it. Maybe you can try to go somewhere else? Libra did...some place called Ash or something. Ooh! Or you could come with me to Ylisse, maybe! I'm sure I could help you girls find nice homes. Who knows? Maybe one of you has an affinity for magic..." Producing a flower, Sumia tried to keep the mood up. "So, ask me a question that you want a fortune for."

As the others joined them, Sumia would wave. "Hello, everyone! How are things?"

"Oh... So you have stuff like that where you come from too, huh? But... Barbarians? Evil kings? That sounds like stuff you'd find in books, but to you... That's all just, natural to you? Back where I'm from, there wasn't anything like magic or... or heroes," Miki sighed. She remembered one conversation in particular she'd had with Yuki-senpai and friends in which they wondered if, like the average zombie movie, there was a lone hero running around saving everyone he could, and it was only a matter of time before they'd all be saved too. Rii-san, realistic as she saw herself, tried to keep any unhelpful fantasies out by discarding such a theory, but it was Yuki-senpai who perhaps made the most surprising statement, in that the only heroes around were those who made one out of themselves.

And yet, here they were... In a dreary world, hunted by villains, with no one to call a black and white hero, try as Sumia might to see the light in this world forsaken by God, if there was one here.

Miki_1003_copy.png

"Yes... I can only hope that one day, my friends and I will find our share of ease, wherever it might be. It's all I can do right now, after all," Miki nodded, before blinking at Sumia's latter offer, "A... flower fortune? Ah, sure then. What exactly is it?"

"If that floats your boat, sure. I don't have any more rocks laying 'round in my coat anyway," Constantine said with a shrug to Ben, as though caring little for the fact that he had just pretty much spelled out the futility of heroism to these idealistic people. Maybe it was a little counter-productive, but Constantine had seen his fair share of idealistic, naive people crumble under the weight of the despair that awaited them.

"Wait, what?" The bartender blinked.

"Nothing. Let's go," Constantine said, walking with Ben to the inn now, along with anyone else who might have felt inclined to follow as well.

As newcomers came into the inn, such as Ben and Sebastian, they would see Sumia conversing with Miki at a table nearby, with a sleeping Yuki next to them as well. They had the option of joining in on the conversation, or they could go upstairs, where Grace and Virginia were in the process of checking out their own rooms, and where one could approach Kokichi, who seemed to have found something interesting that he might do well to share.

Emphasis on "might."

Ben smiles as he sees the sleeping Yuki, then casually waves towards Sumia and Miki when he realised they were near as Sumia greets them all.

"Hey girls, I'm... uh... doing good."

Ben Tennyson was hiding something as his left eye twitched, evidently.

Twice.

Those who have been his allies for a long while, such as his former foe Kevin Levin, may be made aware that this was a sign that Ben was lying. It was an obscure detail that even his cousin Gwen didn't know until told.

"We got some info at the Tavern next door, that's about it. How about you all? Where's everyone else?"

"Oh, we're okay! We got rooms, and everyone else is upstairs. And ooh, what kind of information did you get?"

Noticing Ben's odd behavior, Sumia frowned in concern. "Uh, Ben? You okay there?"

@Ver @Crow @Raptor Jesus

"...greetings, Miss." In spite of himself, Libra blushed slightly when referred to as handsome. It happened so rarely... But it faded immediately upon seeing the sick girls. "Are these women all right? I can try to heal what ails them."
"Ahh, you can try. The effort would certainly be appreciated, but I've no idea what they're down with. This mysterious plague... It frustrates me that I don't know where it came from, but not as much as the fact that even if I did know, we probably wouldn't even have enough money to get enough medicine, if any at all," Luca said, fiddling with her hair with her index finger and thumb idly, before taking a wet rag and handing it to Libra, "Here. I'm guessing if you were traveling with Guts, you're familiar with Casca over there?" She inquired, gesturing toward the dark-skinned woman with the brand on her body.

"Go ahead and lay her down, and put that rag on her forehead. She's not really sick, at least, not with the plague, but the last time I ran into her, turned out I was lucky to pretend she was sick. Down with the vapors, I guess you could say. Felt bad about it, but her... um, personality, or what remains of it, doesn't let one do much else with her."

"Nnnn?" Casca only moaned, like a confused child, recognizing her own name, but not the rest of what Luca had said, as she continued to simply sit there, looking around curiously for nothing.

"Yellow Goblin with red eyes that rhymes, and a magic castle that only pops up at night, to summarise it. The elaboration would include how the village is in fear of these things. News of this stuff's pretty widespread, apparently."

Sumia asked if Ben was alright. Ben veiled himself with a smile.

Libra smiled. "Fortunately medicine is not needed. I can attempt to heal them with just this staff." But first, he would aid Casca as requested. "It's all right, Casca," he said, voice full of gentleness as he lay her down and put the rag on her head. "Just rest now."

That done, Libra would walk to one of the girls, kneelong in front of her. "By the grace of Naga...be healed." He would raise his staff, attempting to cast Mend in order to heal her. If successful, he would do the same for the rest.

"A goblin, you say?" Sebastian asked as he casually entered the room. "A woman whom I met in the brothel mentioned a goblin. I believe he may be a candidate for the 'Great Evil' we are seeking, by the way she spoke of him."

"Hmph. Did she say where to find this creature? I'm afraid that the two bumbling idiots who spoke of it didn't provide such detail." Ciel said as he crossed his arms and leaned against a nearby table.

"Allegedly, they are in this very building, according to Sir Libra."
Sebastian said before turning to Sumia. "Yes, he indeed mentioned a demon in this inn whom only speaks in rhymes. Do you perhaps know which room he's in?"

Lindel decided to stay and check out one of the rooms. He wasn't going to intrude on the girl's conversation and he at least wanted to make sure that whatever room he had didn't have anything troublesome left in it. Besides, a small bit of alone time wouldn't hurt for a moment.

"P-Pegasi?! You mean like, those winged horses? Your world... is seriously like, straight out of a book that you'd find in mine," Miki said in amazement to Sumia as she elaborated further on her world, before faced with the question of how she "got by." The girl figured, if Sumia was from a world that truly was reminiscent of those fantasy books or movies and stuff like that, then she probably had little concept of modern machines like cars or air conditioning, or heck, maybe even a stove.

"Well... Instead of stuff like magic, we've just gotten around to... building things that can do convenient things. For example, um... I guess you'd use carriages with horses leading them to travel long distances? Where I'm from, we don't really need horses for that stuff anymore. The carriages move by themselves, and they go way faster than any horse ever could," Miki said, finding it very awkward to describe a car with archaic comparisons.

"A-And... if we want to talk to a friend who's far away, instead of writing a letter, we made machines that can instantly connect ourselves to one another, and when we talk into the machine, they can hear our voice like they're right next to us."

She found it even more awkward to describe a phone. Miki felt inclined to stop now, as heard as she cleared her throat. As Ben came in, she let him converse with Sumia, before the exchange went back to her.

"A-Anyway... A question I want a fortune for? Mmm... You mean, something like... Where will I be a few years from now?"

It had been a long time since she did anything like this.

As talk rose of a mysterious goblin or demon, Constantine jumped into the fray as well. "If the demon's who I think it is, you won't be findin' him bobbing around in broad daylight. 'Specially not if he's under Faust's control. Cloaked man is a bit on the nose after all," he commented, still holding his cigarette between his fingers.

"Why does it matter whether or not he's under your pal's control?" Guts grunted, crossing his arms toward Constantine.

"Because, old sport, there is a such thing as good demons."

Guts looked at Sebastian for a brief moment, and then turned around, facing the window. "My ass..."

When Sumia caught on, Ben sighs and takes a seat beside Miki, on the opposite side of Sumia.

"Say, Sumia, are you considered a hero back in your world?"

@Yun Lee @Raptor Jesus @Ver @Otto @etcetcetc

Sumis giggled at Miki's amazement. "We sure do! And they're sooooo cute! They act just like regular horses, but with wings! I actually raise a few back home!" She paused, adding with some concern, "...I sure hope they're doing okay..."

But now it was Sumia's turn to be in awe of Miki's world. "What?! Machines that can do things like that? That's amazing! I haven't seen very many machines myself, save for those used for farming. "Honestly I think it's best that I retired after we stopped Grima. I enjoy raising animals and giving fortunes...and speaking of!"

Desperate to change the subject, Sumia turned back to the flower. "You can ask a question like that! It's a bit open-ended, so I can try and give you a fortune on happiness or your love life or something of that sort."

Virginia scowled as she was suddenly confronted with that all too familiar scent of rotting decay as she approached her door. A year traveling through the wastes, exploring supposedly ancient ruins and desecrated villages, had introduced her to it and made her quite intimate with it, and without even thinking, her hand drew one of her ARMs from its holster, ready for whatever laid beyond the door. "Sebastian, Ben, Libra? Could you help me push my door open, seems to be something blocking it," She called out back to the main room of the inn, eyeing up the door that remained stubbornly shut as she thought of bull rushing her way through as Gallows would, "I think it might be the cause for the scent around here... "Will my current ways of being a hero lead to my downfall, or even worse - the downfall of those I'm trying to help and those close to me?"

"I suppose a butler's duty is never done." Sebastian chimed as he stood up and approached said door.

Raising his right foot, Sebastian delivered several powerful kicks to it, trying to kick it down. Hopefully, combined with Ben's efforts as Four-Arms, they could take care of this problem rather quickly.

As Libra worked his spell, fortunately it appeared to work well enough. While the girls before were writhing in pain, groaning and sweating from their sickness, the spell managed to ease their pain. To what extent remained to be seen, but for now, it seemed that their expressions eased up, and they were able to rest easier at the very least.

As Luca witnessed this, her eyes widened in amazement as she clasped her hands together. "W-Wah, amazing! H-How'd you do that?" She exclaimed, hopping over next to Libra, "It's a miracle. I can't believe it. I guess there really is a such thing is blessings after all," she whistled.

Still, it wasn't long until the enthusiasm in her smile faded, and Luca was left looking... distant, her eyes looking almost glazed as she let out a tired sigh. "Of course... If the girls are up and about again, that means that they'll have to get back to work by tomorrow. I didn't want to admit it to myself, but... you know, I was a little glad when they got sick, even if it's a sickness I know not how severe. Even if it meant we couldn't earn any extra money for a while, being out of work, at least this way, they could go a day without some... unsavory customer getting his grubby hands all over them," she spoke, holding her arm as she spoke, before looking up at Libra, cheeks flushing slightly in embarrassment.

"N-Not that I don't appreciate what you did, but... well, bad person it may make me, but I think... maybe it would have been better if they stayed sick. Just for a little while longer. Day in, day out, having to service customers in a way like this... Never a moment's rest until the nightfall..." She sighed, turning around and looking away now.

"Of course, either way, this plague is spread out over the whole village. If the rumors are right that the plague is connected with the mystery castle and the golden goblin, maybe the only real way to get rid of the sickness is to see what's inside there..."

"Where I come from, there are spells utilized in staffs that can heal ailments, among other things." There was a bit of sinful pride in him now, rather proud of the feat he pulled. Fortunately...or unfortunately, it vanished as Luca admitted her true feelings about the situation. Libra hadn't thought about that...

"I must admit, however...I have no idea when they may fully heal. A spell can only do so much, I'm afraid...especially against a mysterious plague." He would give Luca a small smile, hoping she would catch on. "I would recommend one more day of bedrest...at the very least."

He would need to repent for this lie later, but for now, it certainly felt worth it.

"A-Ah... Well, we power them with electricity, usually."

People in those fantasy medieval places didn't know what electricity was, right? How would one even go about explaining that? "U-Um... I guess it's sorta like thunder or lightning, but it takes way more than a staff and some spell to create it. It's... kinda complicated."

Miki felt a little bad about not paying that much attention in her old science classes back in the day now.

As for her fortune, Miki pursed her lips, as though musing on what exactly to ask her. The examples were certainly probably something that Miki would ask... if this was back before everything went into the trash. When was the last time she worried about things like that? Eternal happiness? Love? She could hardly remember the halcyon days when the most stressful things were her grades and getting into college, but now... None of it was important anymore, was it?

Still, if Miki had any hope to return to such a world, she had to begin by hoping at all. To dream, to indulge in some childish fantasy once in a while.

Managing a small, sheepish smile, Miki decided on her question. "O-Okay, then. In that case... how does my love life end up? Anything significant there? Anything good? I guess, what's the phrase... Does it bear any fruit? If we can just jump from that one..."

She felt dumb indulging in such fantasies, but maybe it was okay to do dumb things once in a while.

"Wow...thunder to power machines! It makes for really good attack spells, but I never would have thought..." Miriel would LOVE to hear that! Maybe she could tell her when she got home!

But for now, Miki was smiling, meaning this had to be working, at least a little bit! Now, just to make her stay that way...without using negative answers like Ben did. "Let's see...since a girl as pretty as you is sure to find someone, so let's see how many...first love, a few boyfriends, first love, a few boyfriends..." Soon, the rose was plucked. "Tee hee! How wonderful! It looks as if your first love will be the one for you!"

"I hope so," Ben responds, then recalls the first time he met his future self.

Ben 10000 - the jerk from the future. If Sumia's prediction was true, he would have to go the path of Ben 10000.

Ben felt a bit relieved when Sumia said that it was but a little game. Yet, he felt the need to follow.

Maybe it was something else altogether, like Kevin turning evil. Again. For the umpteenth time. No big deal there beyond the redundancy of that and how it'll ultimately round down to.

"Thanks Sumia, you helped quite a bit," Ben thanks, still feeling a bit uneasy, yet a bit better than he previously was feeling, so Sumia did indeed help.
