"It's entirely possible they are safer than we are," Burnham said quickly, turning around to stride quickly to the door. She stopped when something thumped against the door out into the hall of the ship. "Whatever that is, it's being detected as a threat and so the door won't open for it."

She turned to look at the others. "I will be okay, but I think it best all of you stay confined to this room."

"If we could have deactivated the force field, we would have done it by now," Elliot said, though not entirely annoyed. He watched carefully with the others for a sign of the guards. One guard could only be seen from his knees down. It was he who started to get up, but he crawled backward for a moment, obscuring him from view entirely.

There was a strange noise that could not entirely be identified, and then--

mupxxAL.png

A creature ran forward into view and slammed up against the force field. It looked like the body of the guard, but his head had been replaced with some kind of amorphous creature. Blood drenched his neck, down to the cavity of his chest which had been cut open. His hands had morphed into claws that banged and scratched at the shield to no avail.

"This... foul creature does not look strong enough to do what we could not accomplish," said Elliot, eyeing the new threat with curiosity.

Emily eyed Gakupo quietly after she was told it was safer to stay confined in the room they were in. It wasn't just the safety of those in the hangar, but what Elliot might do that got her nervous. Though, as tempted as she was to rush to the hangar anyways, the thump against the door leading out didn't sound very welcoming. It looks like they were trapped, until the immediate threat could be dealt with, or... More likely, the threat found its way inside.

So for now, she stayed poised, eyeing her surroundings with a new sense of caution as she prepared to do what she had to if a threat were to get in the room somehow.

"Ahahaha," Starscream laughs for a bit as he bends his head downwards.

"Oh, I see what's going on. A parasite, an organic one at that. Turns organics into... whatsitcalled... Terrorcons... no, zombies."

He mocks the supposed zombie.

"Well well, aren't you a quivering little mindless, half-dead halfwit offspring of a Turbofox," Starscream insults the zombie, "I dare you to find a way to get through. Then again, you'll need an actual brain to find a way, now wouldn't you? Yup, I thought so."

Following that, Starscream adds another layer to his insults by softly tapping the forcefield like it was a glass enclosure housing pet iguanas.

“JESUS!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING!?!? SOMEONE KILL IT!!! KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT KILL IT!!!”

Grif screamed as he damn near shit his pants in fear before running to the opposite end of the hangar despite the fact that the creature had no chance of getting in there’s with them.

For now, at least.

Meanwhile, Sarge didn’t even acknowledge Grif, instead only raising his pistol just in case the creatures somehow breached the barrier.

"Your guess is as good as mine," Burnham said, reaching down to pull out her weapon. She held it in one hand and walked over to the door to hold her other hand over the manual override. With long exhale out, Burnham nodded and pressed her palm against the button, opening the door.

Almost immediately, a creature leaped into the room from the hall, focused on Burnham.

She fired instinctively and hit it in the air, causing it to drop straight down to the ground, writhing as if shocked.

"Get that thing contained!" Stamets yelled, looking around the room for something appropriate. Burnham quickly closed the door again so that they could deal with this one creature first.

"Officer Burnham?" she heard over her comm.

"Yes?"

"The threats, whatever they are, are inside the ship, wreaking havoc on our systems. The shield is about to go down. The guards at the hangar bay aren't responding!"

Shocked, Burnham looked to their guests. "Your friends might be in danger after all," she said. "Hurry, come with me if you want, or stay here and help this situation!"

Soon, the creature was joined by the second guard... and then a third. Then a fourth and a fifth. The creatures banged at the shield, unable to get through.

... At least, until the shield mysteriously went down. Elliot went wide-eyed and his hands flashed white. "They let down the shield... Our captors seek to murder us all!"

The zombie guards began to pour inside, followed by other creatures, these being solely the things controlling the dead guards.

Emily nodded, looking around the area one last time before she decided to follow Burnham, she wasn't about to leave those in the Hangar behind; they would need all the help they could get.

GoAn2B7.png

"We have to go! Now! After we get everyone in the hangar, we'll come back to help here!" She shouted.

While she was still a young girl, Emily instinctively seemed to have her mind set on what to do; perhaps her time spent in Alledia hadn't all been for naught after all. Nonetheless, her intentions were clear, and she was prepared to use her stone on short notice if she encountered any more of those creatures that leapt at Burnham from the door.

Instinctively, Gakupo wanted to go help Gumi and the others, but something was on his mind. "Wait! If we can scan that thing, could we learn more about it?" Burnham had no time to wait. She was gone quickly, leaving Emily stopped short by Sheila. It was up to Emily where she went from there.

"Scan it!" Stamets exclaimed with an incredulous laugh. "Research it! Whatever works!" He ran over to a small chamber at the corner of the room. It looked almost like a small isolation room with glass walls. "Toss it into here for now!"

What the creatures lacked in individual strength, they made up for in numbers. Though the few controlling the guards were taken down quickly enough, an actual horde had started spilling into the hangar bay.

Elliot shot out shockwaves from his body to keep himself safe, but his full power was limited. "They go for the neck!" he yelled. "And those limbs can cut metal! Those with armor may not be safe!"

Shots began coming in from the other side. Those who looked over the horde would see Burnham and other members of the security personnel firing red lasers from their weapons.

As for Gumi, all she would find were the usual stacks of crates that had always been present.

"No!" She shouted, wrenching herself free from Shiela for tha moment, she reacted quickly.

Her stone flared with a bright pink light as it suddenly shot forth tendrils of that same light, wrapping around the creature in an effort to restrain it with her stone magic, and with any luck, buying some time to allow the creature to be transported to the isolation chamber.

As soon as this matter was dealt with though, it was likely she was going to rush to the Hangar unless someone else stopped her again.

Emily nodded, listening closely as she tried to take in the information about the mycelial network. Some of the terminology, like usual, was lost on her... But she understood the gist of it; the mycelial network was some sort of microscopic fungal network which the ship's "spore drive" allows travel across this network of fungus. The closest thing she could think of to this were Alledias "transpores". Mushrooms that provided a one way method of teleport from one location to another. Useful, but unfortunately they seem to disappear after only one use, unlike the mycelial network, which appeared to be capable of sustaining countless journeys from one point to another.

Perhaps if the mycelial network did extend across dimensions and universes, like Burnham mentioned the possibility of, the transpores may be their distant cousin Her head throbbed a little thinking about the implications of this, but before she could even say anything, especially regarding to how they may have ended up being pulled aboard the ship, the immediate threat Burnham was suddenly alerted of instantly drew Emily's attention.

pq9m6VF.png

"The hangar! We have to get to the hangar!" She shouted.

Her eyes darted left and right as she tried to remember the way back, as she realized very quickly how dire the situation could be if those in the Hangar were under attack... But she hoped that her stone magic was enough to fight off whatever threat had suddenly presented itself on the ship.

After the scan was over, Emily eyed Tilly for a moment, as she hadn't realized Saru was a "Acting Captain" rather than just a Captain. It seemed something happened the original, but... For now, she decided not to pry, as she wasn't sure if bringing that up right now would end very well.

Regardless, she decided to answer Tilly's question about her origins as truthfully as possible, first taking time to listen to what Gakupo and Zero Two had to say before she spoke herself.

6GIQETp.png

"The last thing I remember doing was diving in a submarine. I was heading to an Alien Ship that a friend of mine was using to house memories. There was something there that held something important to us... And perhaps all of Alledia." She said, then she furroed her brow, straining as she tried to remember much more, but to no avail.

"It's all a blur from then on... I don't know what happened after that... But the last thing I remember feeling was an intense... Heat..." She finished, sighing a little.

Emily looked a little upset that she couldn't remember anything else of use, but... Perhaps it would come to her later.
"Interesting," Stamets said. He poured over the info for a moment, before sighing to himself. "Sounds like you all lead such exciting lives," he then muttered.

"The ambassador will likely have much bigger worries than filing a complaint," Burnham said to Tilly, ultimately unsure what Sarek would think of all this. Starfleet had approved this last use of the spore drive, in any case.

Stamets cleared his throat. "Vibrational wavelengths is a new concept recently theorized by us aboard the Discovery ever since the concept of alternate universes became an observable and researchable viability. This is a concept similar to that of the unique quantum signatures we have observed, but applying it to the concept of there being multiple prime universes. Essentially, as you all do have unique signatures as far as we can gather, it corroborates both our theories and your claims to be from separate dimensions. There are far, far more tests to do, but..." Stamets looked down at his monitor and furrowed his brow. He seemed to be considering something. "Perhaps you might be in a better position to understand our questioning if you knew somewhat of the technology we use."

Stamets pressed a few buttons and expanded a holographic display for the group to see. It appeared as a massive series of tunnels, or a very complicated web. "The mycelial network is made up of the mycelium of a microscopic fungus. The network expands the known universe and our unique spore drive allows our ship to travel along this network instantaneously. It's been known to allow us to cross into dimensions that also contain the mycelial network."

"Could the mycelial network exist not just in the quantum universes we know of, but every possible universe across all of reality?" Burnham asked.

Stamets shrugged. "Possibly. It certainly exists in all the offshoots of our prime universe, but I am unsure if it goes beyond that. However, if you're suggesting we are in some dark corner of the mycelial network, I would have to say it's unlikely. In whatever space-time continuum we find ourselves in, there is no observable mycelial network. We are, essentially, off the rails. My only suggestion would be to try and reverse our jump using the logged coordinates."

Stamets sighed once again, running a hand through his hair. He pursed his lips and observed the network display with curious eyes. "It eludes me how we were able to reach out and bring you to our ship. So far, there seems to be little that connects you in any meaningful way. Even more curious is that fact that we only appeared to bring in various sapient beings, whether they be synthetic or organic. One would think it miraculous we did not bring in some kind of dangerous matter on to the ship--"

"Hold on," Burnham said, hearing something over the comms. She held out a hand for Stamets to pause and listened intently.

"New scans are indicating something odd aboard the ship," said the helmsman. "Multiple entities, moving about inside the walls. Our Security Officer has been informed."

Burnham's eyes went wide. "We may have a dilemma," she said.

Elliot had skulked off from the group, choosing not to participate in the proposed game. All he had said was that he didn't get the point of it before not opening his mouth again, possibly to the relief of others. He had been staring daggers at the cards for the next while, in full view to catch something rather odd.

"What--?!"

Something slammed into one of the guards, knocking him to the ground. The next was assaulted by some kind of creature that latched on to his head and sent him careening out of view of those in the hangar bay. "What the hell is going on now?" Soon, the creature was joined by the second guard... and then a third.

Instinctively, Gakupo wanted to go help Gumi and the others, but something was on his mind. "Wait! If we can scan that thing, could we learn more about it?" He would rush over and pin it to the ground with his foot. The fact that it could tamper with the ship's systems worried him a bit-if it could hurt a ship, a mere android like himself could end up far worse off. But better to figure these things out now than later!

"WOAH! This is like some zombie apocalypse movie or something, except grosser! And I didn't even think that was possible!" Gumi quickly flew into the air, looking around for things that could be used to her advantage. She had the feeling melee was the worst way to take on zombies.

Burnham had no time to wait.

The creature stabbed at Gakupo's leg with one of its limbs to free itself before making a leap for his head.

Zero Two looked up from her brief moment. The ship was under attack. Her Darlings, her allies. No, these weren't Conrad Class Klaxosaurs. These were something else entirely. Something not quite human. A mockery of humanity. Zero Two reacted. Her eyes flashed green by reflecting the light in the room, and in anger, she lashed out towards the monster as it slashed towards Gakupo. She ran up to give it a large kick towards observation.

"I won't let it hurt you, Darling." She said in a slightly strained happy tone.

"Everyone deal with the ones already in here! I shall play with our newcomers!"

Starscream starts off his new plans by hovering, occasionally shifting around to evade any jumping parasite zombies. He aimed a single rocket missile at the zombies flooding in at the entrance, burning and shredding them. Simultaneously, his blasters fired at the zombies.

As he was high up, he noticed that the cavalry was here.

"It appears assistance has arrived. But first, we will need to make a clearance at the entrance to escape. There are simply too many of those undead, and so very few of us..."

Starscream fires another missile once more at another wave flooding in. He tries to identify a clearing in which to escape, in which he will alert everyone if there is, following behind the first three people to go first.

A creature ran forward into view and slammed up against the force field. It looked like the body of the guard, but his head had been replaced with some kind of amorphous creature. Blood drenched his neck, down to the cavity of his chest which had been cut open. His hands had morphed into claws that banged and scratched at the shield to no avail.

"This... foul creature does not look strong enough to do what we could not accomplish," said Elliot, eyeing the new threat with curiosity.

Viktor was not the least bit afraid, but was moderately surprised by the arrival of the parasitic creatures. It certainly was a 180 degree turn from the current atmosphere.

"They can cut metal? Ha. That makes no difference. They are still shamefully inferior," he declared confidently. He quickly brought out an odd metal contraption and tossed it onto the path of the approaching zombies.

It suddenly expanded after a short delay, unfolding itself until a Gravity Field was created from each point of the device. As the zombies stepped into it, they would find themselves weighed down by intense gravity until they collapsed and were dragged into the center.

Following up on this boon, Viktor's third arm shot its Death Ray in a line, incinerating both the headcrabs and their zombified hosts. The smell of burning flesh permeated the room, but it did not bother Viktor. Why would it?

Blitzcrank, meanwhile, was hesitating. He had never encountered mind-controlling parasites before. At first, he saw the zombies as injured humans. But, after analyzing the zombies for a bit, he came to the conclusion that the hosts could not be saved, and that they were now threats to humanity. "I AM SORRY FOR THIS," the steam golem remarked, attempting to empathize with the afflicted humans, which was something Viktor hadn't cared to do.

He marched forward and tirelessly punched incoming zombies in the head, causing them to fly backward and collide with various objects, sometimes even other zombies.

Darn it, all there were were crates! And she wasn't even strong enough to carry them...oh! "Yoooo!! Anyone wanna lift? I can carry you into the air no problem and you can shoot these guys or something!!"

"Hey!" Gakupo was more inconvenienced than anything by the little alien thing. The creature managed to poke a hole in his leg, but Gakupo managed to pull away in time to avoid much more damage. Unfortunately, in doing so that gave the creature a chance to jump at his head.

"Giii-!" Emily and Zero Two working together helped save his ass, though. Whew. "Thanks..." He still kept an eye on the creature in case it wasn't locked away, though.

...wait, did Zero Two just call him Darling?

...nice.

The creature was frozen and pushed toward the chamber with ease. Stamets slammed the door shut on it, wincing as it smashed against the glass. "You'll need to let me take a look at that stone of yours," he said, rushing over to his console. "I will begin an examination. The rest of you block the door."

Thumping began to echo from behind the exit door. More creatures had come, and by the sound of it, there were a lot of them. "They are breaking right through the door," Stamets said through gritted teeth.

The creatures swarmed in groups, weaving between the fighters in order to determine who among them was the weakest. A group singled out Nathan, still on the ground, and began to converge on him. Another group took Sarge's bait and went for him, leaping over shuttles and crates to get to him.

Starscream and Viktor managed to clear out the majority of the entrance, giving the Security Personnel and Burnham access to the hangar bay while also allowing an escape route for the former prisoners. However, escape would not be so simple. "How can this be happening?" Burnham said, getting a new message over the comms. She looked around at the men and women surrounding her. "Ambassador Sarek is in danger, but we don't have the men to spare!"

Elliot stared at her, his lips pursed. He knocked some of the creatures away before turning round to the others. He had a smirk on his face that Burnham and the other crew members couldn't see. "We should help!" he yelled, perhaps surprisingly. "Some of us should help save this ambassador!"
