Land Down Under (KJDarKnight & Treasure)

She gave him a soft smile "When you're ready, or not at all, it does not matter" she signed.

Faelar came to the door way finally "Everything alright?" he asked, looking between the two of them

he nodded a little "She told her then" he said. Justira nodded and beamed up at Gray. "Well now ya know are big family secret, seems only the girls get it" he shrugged a little

"Generally speaking, females do tend to be better at listening or are more in tune with nature," Gray smiled. "Now, how about something to eat?"

[Feel free to skip here, if you would like]

The rest of the evening went fairly smooth for all. Mathias woke up and joined them for dinner, feeling pretty well better after resting and having medicine and essentially told they would be making sure he took his medication and took care of himself.

Sometime in the middle of the night Gray's emergency stand by radio came to life "Gray pick up! We need Pepper down in the engine room now! She's the only one that..." It went dead a second later, the familiar background hum of the air system, shut off, lights all over the city began to flicker and go out leaving desolation in more dark than anyone of them had ever known and a silence that left people wondering if they had lost their hearing, if not for the sound of their own breath. Most were asleep but those who weren't, held their breath for the power to come back

Lynna was one of the lucky ones sound asleep in her bed. Badru sat awake, but he did not understand the significance and only looked around curiously. An interesting development.

Gray stared at the radio. He could still see despite the pitch darkness, but only just. Then he rolled out of the makeshift bed he'd created in the corner of the kitchen and walked to where Justira and Faelar slept. He knelt on the bed and touched Justira's arm.

Justira blinked slowly, confused and disoriented being woken up like that "mm?" she mumbled sleepily not awake enough yet to remember how to sign. She squinted in the dark, too dark for her to see who was there let alone see if Gray signed anything

Gray took a deep breath and steeled himself. Then he took her hands in his then placed his hands inside hers and started to sign slowly and distinctly, letting her feel the shapes he was creating in her hands.
"Something is wrong. I need to go and find out what it is, but I cannot speak. Can Fealar come and speak for me?"

Justira was startled by the sensation and very confused by it too but she wasn't afraid and didn't pull away, she could tell it was Gray. Was this his ability? Whatever this was? No no, she could ponder that later. She paid close attention to the movements instead, then nodded. Sure he could, nothing wrong with his voice and he understood sign as well as she did.

Gray smiled even though she could not see him. "Stay here near the forest. If there is trouble, hide in there. Otherwise, I will come back and get you. I am sorry."
He pulled away slowly then turned to Faelar and put a hand on his arm, wincing at the touch. It made his skin crawl! But he forced himself to do the same thing with Faelar as he had with Justira and asked him to come along. It was even harder to sign in Faelar's hands.

Faelar was confused and disoriented too but allowed Gray to move his hands for him "Uh yeah... sure I can speak for you I guess" he asked, blinking hard to try and adjust his yes but there was just no light to work with. "Lead the way" he said as he got out of the bed, finding the floor with his feet

Gray couldn't take the thought of holding Faelar's hand the whole way, so he found a short length of rope and losely tied the end around Faelar's wrist. The loop was loose enough that if he really wanted to, Faelar could wriggle out of it, but not loose enough to easily fall off. He did the same with his wrist then led the way out.

Pepper was hopefully still at Mathias' house, so Gray went that way. Thankfully he could skirt the town and skip running into anyone else, but he had to move slower so Faelar could keep up. Thanks to his ability, Gray could make out the basics, easily making his way through the darkness, but Faelar likely had no such luck.

Faelar tried not to stumble and had to hold his hands out one in front and one against the wall to feel his way along "Guess uh, this is how blind folk feel eh?" he mused in the still silence that was currently desolation city.

Pepper was at her brother still, asleep back in her room and Peter in the smaller kids room next door, none of them any the wiser to what was going on

It took Gray a bit to find the door to Mathias' house. He knew exactly where it was, but he'd never had reason to come before know, and knowing the theory was a bit different than practice. He finally did find the ladder and pulled it down before assending.

Badru heard the stairs or ladder or whatever it was and scowled as he stomped blindly to the door. "Who?" he demanded, ready for a fight.

Gray nudged Faelar. Now would be a good time to speak.

"Uh Faelar and Gray" Faelar answered, a bit scared of Badru and it showed in his voice "There is uh, trouble in town" he said shifted awkwardly in the dark but slowly he could see a little thanks to the moonlight from the window which just backlit Badru and made him look like a towering shadow giant

With his back to the light peering down into darkness, Badru couldn't see the pair, but he heard the shuffle of two feet, and Faelar's voice was familiar. "What trouble?" he demanded.

Wincing and internally cursing, Gray took Faelar's hands and put his hands in them once more as he signed the shapes. "Need Pepper. Fix engine." There. Keep it simple.

Faelar nodded "Need Pepper. Fix Engine" he said word for word what Gray had said, he had no idea really the specifics, well, none of them did really just something had gone wrong and they had called for Pepper.

Badru grunted and backed up. "In come. I will get her." He turned and went to Pepper's door. He tapped lightly on it. "Pepper? People come for you."

Gray came in farther, blinking in the moonlight. It felt bright after the pure darkness.

Faelar came in a little further and then he saw the window and could not resist, he walked up to it and looked up at the starry sky, he hadn't realized how much he missed it until now "Come look Gray..." he said while they waited

Pepper groaned and slowly sat up, rubbing her eyes before coming to the door "What?who?why?" she grumbled

Gray hesitated by the door. He'd never seen the surface. Never looked out a window, never seen the stars, never felt the wind on his face. He'd always been fascinated - perhaps even obsessed - with trees, but now that he had a chance to see them... he balked.

"Grey and friend. Say that Engine needs fixed," Badru said columsily. He wondered who Engine was and why Pepper was needed to fix him or her.
