Chronicles of The Omniverse Archived Lutetia City: Merveilleux

Rei took another sip of her drink and felt her inhibitions slipping, and the individual death of each of her brain cells. Well, can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs She mused inwardly, aware it was an excuse of an analogy, in this very rare case, want overshadowed need.

Mr tall, suit and handsome. My god is that the smartest thing I can think of? She thought incredulously, regardless. Mr tall, suit and handsome returned her compliment with honeyed words, or intended honeyed words, the innocent Proselyte would usually have felt like a perverse doll with the way he'd checked her out, but today she was feeling confident about her body and well....tipsy. She took another sip of her drink and turned to the man, leaning on the bar towards him, feeling confident with her body twisted in such a way to show off her assets. "I'm flattered, Rei, and you are?" She queried. This would likely be her first and last outing with how the Academy was, so she was going to make the most of doing things she wouldn't normally while she could.

"Call me Malcolm. Malcolm Sancrix." Nox lied, pronouncing the 'crix' in his made up last name like one would prix, as in Grand Prix. He let his eyes wonder some more, as she clearly desired that, and not for the first time, he could smell the lingering, fresh scent of the church wafting off of her...and others in the warehouse. The more he got used to the insane mixtures of body odors, chemicals, and sweat, the more the Caer could pick out individual smells, and pinpoint who they belonged to.

There were...maybe five others with the sharp crispness of the Holy Order running around this place. Suddenly, Nox had an idea. A most awful idea...A wonderful, awful idea. Something that would keep him entertained for weeks. Something that would make Sanina very proud of him.

Still, it all hinged on this girl right now. "So tell me Rei. I saw you come inside with a few others." He would then pause to take another sip of this marvelous new drink, or maybe it wasn't new at all and fifty years of self isolation made you fall behind in the times, an 'appletini' with a splash of cinnamon whiskey. It was quite wonderful. "And I'm all alone tonight. Mind if you introduce me." Despite the drumming of the warehouse, the deafening noise from being this close to the dance floor, the self-called 'Malcolm' would whisper to her, and she'd hear it as if he was right in her ear, his breath on her neck. "I promise not to bite."

“While werewolves are more common, I have reason to believe that there are more vampires in this town than we’re aware of. Something tells me that they’re hiding among us, waiting for the moment to strike.” Jimmy grasped for another bottle, popping off the lid before starting to drink on it, the memories of his mother’s death and the way his father treated him enough to make him want to drown the thoughts. Shifting his gaze back towards Élisabeth he couldn’t help but drop his gaze towards her chest before forcing himself to look at her face again.

“I wouldn’t say fascination, but… you’ve got the idea. Fighting the enemy after getting to know the enemy makes more sense.” He seemed to pause, as if attempting to gather his thoughts before continuing.

“I would never discuss this with my tutor or anyone at the church. I did bring it up in front of Aaro, Inarin, and Celeste, but well… that didn’t go as well as I had hoped.” Jimmy realized he was being rude by not offering her a drink.

“You want something to drink?” He questioned, reaching for a second bottle.

When Étienne spotted the female coming toward him, a look of what could only be described as muted disgust came over him, and he prepared himself for the usual amount of adoration he received when he was recognized and picked out from a crowd. In reality, the look and train of thought passed in a mere second, and unless the approaching female was paying close attention, which was hard to do in a venue full of noises, colors, and people, then she wouldn't have seen it overtake his face. No, when she got close enough to see his features, the only thing she'd find decorating his face would be a charming smile.

This was theatre, after all.

Her tongue slowly slid across her bottom lip, wetting it as she thought about all the things she wanted to do with the stranger as well as those others up in the VIP area. Shifting her gaze from the crowd that had couples grinding on each other to the music back to the male who hadn’t bothered to come closer to her, Alysa sighed, figuring she was going to have to do all the legwork in this relationship. After a few minutes or seconds, whichever, the Scion finally reached the male and nodded her head towards him.

Shit, it’s been a long time since I’ve flirted.

“Hey there, couldn’t help but notice you just standing here. I was wondering if you’d like a drink or something?” Alysa smiled and tried to do her best at flirting, though it was not her best attempt. Maybe she needed to get out and attend clubs more often and work on flirting with me.

"Ohh no you don't," Aaro shook his head, swiftly blocking Celeste's way. "I knew you'd try and do this. You get all dressed up, sneak out, and for what? To get the barest glimpse of a real-world party and then bail?" The proselyte grinned. "I'm not letting you do this to yourself, Celeste. At least have a dance." He looked to Arien, seeming not to hear his initial question about the decor. "Arien! Arien, please. Dance with Celeste. She desperately needs to start having a good time."

"I would not want to force dear Celeste into anything she didn't want to do," Arien said, meeting Celeste's eyes with a smouldering gaze, "Nor do I take charitable requests."

He shook his head, "No... if we dance, it'll be because we both want to." Smiling, he rose to his feet and offered Celeste a hand, winking. "So how about it?"

____

Élisabeth grinned at Jimmy's offer, "Well, I told myself that I'd slow down on the drinking... but that was a good five minutes ago," she winked, "Go on then. I can't say I'm surprised. About your friends' reactions, I mean. They're probably just concerned for you. After all, they've been taught for however many years that werewolves and vampires are essentially the boogeyman. There's merit to caution, of course, but only up to a point."

____

Valère leaned forwards and plucked a cocktail glass filled with a red drink from the small table between the two couches. "So what do you do?" he asked, taking a sip through one of the straws in it.

Alveré stretched across to reach the other straw, smirking as he leaned over Inarin to do so. The proselyte seemed to be pulling himself together at this point, his embarrassment having reached critical mass and then pushed beyond it. The end result was quiet acceptance of his fate, allowing himself to just relax and breathe.

"Want a drink?" Both twins asked him with a grin, proffering their cocktail.

Inarin hesitated, but there was something about the atmosphere that inclined him towards just ... rolling with it. He took the glass with a nod, mumbling something incoherent and vaguely appreciative. It was very fruity, he noted, though he could definitely taste the alcohol in there. Strongly.

Hesitantly, he looked across at Aurelie. "Uhm... Aurelie, right? Did Rei say why she was looking for me?" he asked.

Celeste looked a little panicked at the idea of dancing. She leaned close to Aaro to hiss at him, "I don't know how to dance without a weapon in my hand!" Which wasn't Exactly true, since she did just fine in unarmed combat. Sure she was only average scored in that class, but that still isn't bad.

Then she gave Arien that panicked, wide-eyed, dark blue stare as she placed her calloused hand in his, unable to resist. "I've never danced. Unless shaking your booty to a radio by yourself counts. But I'd like to."

The moment that last phrase left her lips the panic went to shock as she hadn't intended to actually say it. She looked around thoughtfully then, considering the fog machines before she tried to spot Pierette. Pierette was out of sight though, tucked against a wall as she smoked a joint with a couple other aging party people.

Maybe it looked like Celeste was just eyeing the people dancing, perhaps for a better idea of how it was done. In truth she was trying to decide if they had been drugged just by breathing in something. It was so subtle a thing she almost missed it entirely. Given Arien's grasp on her hand, she decided that she no longer cared and would let it go.

For once, Celeste decided to let her instincts as a girl override her training as a paladin. The slightest tug from Arien would have her in his arms, trying to relax and do what he wanted her to do. After all, in dancing, the man was supposed to lead.

"I've been playing a bit of for the church lately, but in reality I just do whatever people are willing to pay me to do," Aurelie smiled and took a sip from her drink, as it seemed someone had refilled it while she wasn't looking. "If you're thinking of hiring, we can discuss the details later."

She turned to Inarin after his question,
"She didn't really give me details, just that she wanted to talk to you about something, maybe about those blueprints of hers or something," she shrugged and scratched her head.

“Great, I have just the stuff right here. I’ve no idea what it is, but it tastes delicious.” Jimmy snatched a glass too in case she didn’t want to drink from the bottle like he was doing at that moment. Pouring her some of the unidentified liquor, he leaned back again and sighed, glancing towards the others he came with, most of which were doing alright, other than Inarin, of course. Sure, Élisabeth had a point, but it didn’t make the truth any easier to swallow.

“Yeah, the boogeyman. I think some of the fear is nonsense, but there’s no convincing them. Rumors fly through the monastery like crazy and if you believed everything that was said, then it’s easy to see why vampires and werewolves are so feared. I just want to see for myself what’s true and what’s not.” Jimmy was amazed that he was still coherent and chalked it up to what Aaro had given him earlier in the vial. How much could he drink before it was no longer effective though? There was one way to find out and there was just something about his drink and company that made him want to push all limits.

"I'm sure we can think of all sorts of things that we might pay you to do," Alveré said with a grin.

"You ought to be more careful with your wording," Valère added. "Or people might make assumptions."

"Untoward assumptions."

The twins exchanged another grin over the top of Inarin's head. The proselyte wore a briefly thoughtful expression, before he simply shrugged and shook his head. "I guess if it's important she'll talk to me about it another time. Maybe it was just the blueprints, though she's never shared that sort of thing with me ... or anyone, before."

"Who cares about her anyway?" Alveré murmured, leaning onto the blonde's shoulder.

"Aren't we enough?" Valère hummed, mirroring the gesture.

For the umpteenth time that night, Inarin blushed. "I wasn't- It's not the same, I was only asking because ... I mean, I don't really know her anyway..."

As he struggled to explain away ... something (he wasn't really sure what), both twins simply broke out laughing.

"He's making excuses! Isn't he cute?" Alveré exclaimed. "Can we keep him?"

"He's adorable." Valère agreed, grinning, "We'd have to ask Arien though..."

Ask Arien? What did that mean? Inarin only briefly questioned the statement before dismissing it as nothing to worry about. It was very difficult to worry with how relaxed he was feeling. Even his embarrassment was muted, distracted as he was by how very close his new-found companions were. Shouldn't that have been embarrassing him in and of itself? For some reason it wasn't, and thinking about it, he really wasn't going to complain.

Élisabeth nodded. "Knowledge is power, as they say. Reliable knowledge, anyway." She smiled and took a small sip of the proffered drink. She had none of the benefits of Jimmy's potion, and so was playing her drinking carefully. Tonight wasn't a night to let entirely loose, much as it would be fun to.

"So..." she murmured, "What do you think of your friends? I mean, I assume you like them, since they're your friends. But I'd like to know at least a little about them, in case I don't get a chance to ask them myself."

Her first impressions of them all were ... mixed. Inarin didn't seem to have changed much at all since she'd last encountered him, though she supposed that actually leaving the Monastery of his own volition was a drastic development in its own right.

The girl called Celeste looked like she was busily trying to convince herself that she shouldn't be here - a self-sabotaging internal critic, no doubt. The other boy, whose name she hadn't caught, seemed ... relatively simple. He hadn't given her much to work with, aside from an air of laid-back casualness that smacked of being forced. She expected he was trying to impress someone - perhaps one of the girls, or perhaps everyone. Himself included.

Then there was the woman - clearly older than the others, though she couldn't say exactly how much. She seemed perfectly at home at the party, and so Elisabeth reasoned she probably wasn't a proselyte. What was her connection, then?

She took a deep breath and forced her mind to stop whirring, letting the alcohol and the atmosphere soak back in and relax her. Arien kept saying that she tried too hard. That was easy for him to say. It was all she could do to keep up with his navigation of social battlegrounds, and he didn't even seem to be trying! It really wasn't fair.

But then, wasn't that what she found so delightful about him? That, amongst ... other things.

“My friends?” Jimmy was caught a little off-guard before he just shook his head in slight disappointment.

Of course a beautiful woman like Élisabeth wouldn’t actually be interested in him. Why had they all been invited anyways? He gazed over towards the four he came with -- Pierette included, though he couldn’t really see her -- and couldn’t help but frown. What if this was some sick joke and they were the butts of it? Taking another huge swig in hopes of pushing such negative thoughts out of his mind, Jimmy came to realize a second rather important detail. He needed to relieve himself and had no idea where the bathrooms were. First, he supposed he should answer the female’s question.

“Well, to answer your question, I do like them, but we’re mostly just classmates except Pierette, who I just met tonight. She’s the older sister of Celeste and most definitely not a proyleste. The other two girls that showed up, I barely know. Aaro invited them, I guess. Anyways, like I said, they’re mostly classmates, so I don’t know a lot about them. I overheard you knew Inarin from family dinners, so you probably already know more about him than I ever will. I invited him out with us to the café because I felt he needed the push to be more outgoing. Celeste was a push too, but I think that’s because she’s very by the book, which I suppose is a good thing. Aaro… heh, he’s an adventurous person to an extent, but he seems to want to appease people and I’m not sure why. If you’ll excuse me, I’ll be right back.” Jimmy smiled and leaned forward to kiss her cheek before turning around and walking quickly away to hide his blushing cheeks. Why the hell did he just do that? It didn’t take him long to reach the toilets and was glad that unlike the women’s designated spot, there was absolutely no line.

Really? he thought, That's what you're going to lead with? You couldn't help but notice me standing here? Spare me.

Despite the internal annoyance, Étienne kept smiling all the same.

"A drink would be great, thank you!" His tone was like artificial sweetener, and the best part was that nobody could tell the difference. With the grace of a person who had done it a million times, he attempted to swing his arm around the woman. If successful, he'd escort her to the bar and also hopefully into the line-sight of those in the VIP area.

Great, Mr… uhhh? I’m sorry, I didn’t catch your name. I’m Alysa Jayse. I hope you’re not put off too much by my lame attempt at flirting.” Alysa smiled faintly, nestling close against him for a second before she gave him the space he probably wanted. Noting they were not only going towards the bar, but towards the VIP section, the Scion couldn’t help but inwardly grin. Maybe she had a chance to get them all after all. Her emerald eyes watched one of the yummy males heading towards the restroom before she returned her attention towards her current target.

“What do you drink anyways?” Why was this so difficult? Her mind was a little cloudy, which was concerning, but she just figured it was due to the tequila she was drinking.

Rei shivered a little at his proximity. It was a good kind of shiver, a new sensation. She looped her arm through his elbow at his request and took another sip of her drinking, slipping ever further into a drunken stupor. She beamed up at him and pulled him close to her side with a surprising strength from such a small girl, aftermath of her training at the church no doubt, and a strength that would pale to that of a feeble mouse compared to the powerful Caer.

"It would be my pleasure, on the condition you escort me this evening." She said quite forwardly, beginning to make her way ahead, guiding him across the floor towards the V.I.P. area with playful tugs and dancing feet, much like the excited child that she was. She made sure he had a prize view of her swaying hips and legs as she lead him through the crowd, aware he could shoulder past everyone alone were she not intent on 'playing' with the bold man.

They would arrive at the V.I.P. booth, and with confidence and a lack of tact brought on by the alcohol, Rei would make her way past the rope and wait for her newest companion on the other side. Chiming happily with a wide grin at the assembled Proselytes and V.I.P.'s a simple tune.

"Guess who made a friend?~"

"Oh trust me, I know exactly what I said." Aurelie grinned and swirled the drink in her glass. "I can see us getting along well together." Not only was she interested in these two, but the fact that they were rich and famous didn't hurt either, and they were quite cute. She took another sip from her drink.

"Guess who made a friend?~" Aurelie turned quickly when she heard the familiar voice, seeing a much more confident Rei with a very large man...

Wait, is that really him?
Her eyes widened, one part fear, three parts surprise, and two parts curiosity.
The glass dropped from her hand, shattering on the floor.
No way, I thought they all died off..
She could feel the cold aura emnating from him, and the distinct piercing blue eyes that seemed to bore directly into her skull.
There's no mistaking it, but why is he here? Why now?
His presence was imposing to say the least, even though he seemed to be rather joyful with his new companion.
By the gods, does Rei have any idea who this is?

She worked up the courage to open her lips, looking directly at him and silently mouthing a single word,
"Caer."

Nox let himself be led towards the back of the club, taking his time to marvel at the girls many assets, especially her confidence. It was good to see such a little thing stay upright and strong around him for once. It was refreshing, and this journey he was on tonight was solely about enjoying himself, though that was hardly an issue for him. The great thing about being as powerful as Nox knew he was was that he didn't have to worry or care about the protests and feelings of others if they might prevent him from doing what he loved. He'd do it anyway, and watch them crumble.

And speaking of crumble. A broken glass and a reaction of shock and awe at his arrival. It felt good to see that again.

And look who else stood in this so called "Very Important People's" area. How could it be important if he hadn't been invited? It made no sense.

With a smile that looked like it was directed to everyone, and a wave little wave of courtesy to help disarm. Small tokens. But Nox only had eyes for his fellow undead. Especially Arien.

"Oh!" Élisabeth blinked in surprise at Jimmy's kiss to the cheek, her eyebrows shooting up. She had scarcely time to form a response before the boy had retreated, but should he glance back at her on his way, he would see that she wore a smile on her face.

The twins exchanged a glance, blinking slowly at one another. "I'm not sure she understands our meaning," Valère noted.

Alveré nodded, "We can be much more creative than that sort of 'anything'."

"As if we'd need to pay for it!" Valère chuckled.

Alveré smirked conspiratorially, "Why would we? When we always have each other on demand..."

Valère blinked and the briefest hint of a blush found its way to his face, before he masked it with his own grin.

Across the other side of the seating area, Arien drew Celeste closer, placing his other hand at her hip. "Then let's..."

Guess who made a friend?

Nox's chilling aura washed over Arien and he froze in mid-sentence, turning sharply to face the towering man that Rei had brought over to them. This close, the Caer's aura easily overpowered the blanket of intoxication and warmth that he himself was projecting over the entire warehouse. He could only hope that it wasn't as obvious to the others.

The younger vampire took a half step to subtly place himself between Nox and his assembled playthings, meeting the Caer's gaze with brilliant emerald eyes. As he glowered, they swirled with warning wisps of red.

These are mine, his gaze said, possessive and furious. He knew the way this tool of Sanina's operated, and how badly it would ruin everything if he stayed true to form tonight.

"What an unexpected surprise," he called over the music, his tone smooth and calm in contrast to the wary anger in his stare. "I don't recall anyone of your description receiving an invite. This party is invitation only."

Behind him, the twins rose from their seat and wandered over to peer past him at Nox with matching frowns. "Want us to have him escorted out?" Alveré asked, looking across at where the security guard still stood. The man appeared to be on edge, unsurprisingly.

"If you don't want him here, then neither do we." Valère agreed, leaning into his brother and taking his hand for the comforting anchor it provided. Unlike Arien and Aurelie, neither twin could quite put a finger on why they suddenly felt somewhat uneasy.

"No," Arien said quickly, shaking his head. That wouldn't end well for the security. "Let's not cause a fuss. We wouldn't want to create any trouble, would we?" Those last words seemed directed as much at Nox as at the twins. "As much as I truly don't appreciate gatecrashers, I'm sure we can come to an understanding."

Back on the couch, Inarin watched the exchange with nervous confusion. Something had changed in the air that he couldn't figure out. Whether it was just the missing warmth of the twins beside him, or something more, he suddenly felt a lot colder. It was probably nothing, right?

Jimmy finished up and made his way back towards the VIP section. His pace slowed down however upon noticing Rei bringing over the fellow she had been chatting up at the bar. There was something about the individual that made his stomach knot up, but he brushed the sensation off, figuring it was because he was nervous about talking with Élisabeth. Shaking his head slightly, he moved beyond the rope, accidentally knocking into the stranger in the process. Instead of mumbling an apology, he just stepped over to his not-date and picked up the bottle, returning to drinking.

“Sorry about that… the kiss and just leaving. I’m not very good with romantic type stuff.” He smiled faintly, his gaze shifting back towards the individual that it appeared that no one wanted around.

Celeste gave Arien a goofily happy smile as she laid her hand on his shoulder and gave his hand an affectionate squeeze. The mood didn't last long though.

When Arien suddenly seemed hostile, in the tension of his body more than the expression on his face, she was in a position to notice. She let her friend step in front of her so she could discretely check her weapons while Arien was partially blocking her from view, She looked up at the tall man in white with a hard expression, kinda pissed that he interrupted her cinderella moment.

More than that, Arien's body language was telling her something that might not be so obvious to anyone not standing almost against the auburn haired boy. Without saying a word, Celeste was getting the idea that this gorgeous giant was dangerous. Dangerous enough that it was better to let him do what he wanted rather than trying to get rid of him.

"The more the merrier." She finally said, a muscle in her jaw twitching with the effort to be civil. Her gaze flicked up and down Nox quickly, accessing him for weapons and physical potential... and unwillingly noticed just how yummy he looked in the process.
