Riders of Scavenger Island

Slode panicked a little when the little thing’s incessant cries returned only momentarily after eating two strips about the size of its body. Just how much of it was stomach?!

Sharing a look with Snap and Snarl, he withdraws most of the food he had within his pack and begins to slowly feed the Nadder one at a time, all the while moving back the way he had came.

"No," she said firmly. The less they knew the better before they had her on the chopping block too. "I like your island, but I'll likely leave in the morning. However, to ease that stomach of yours, you should know that I might regret it." It was true. If she drew them away by leaving, they would likely keep right on chasing. One. ...she glanced down at Friydem...no two against the world.

Freydis dropped to the ground when the Hideous Zippleback made it's way into the clearing, facing off with the mother Changewing that had taken her attention off of the young viking and moved it to the other dragon. The girl crawled away from the nest, taking shelter between the trees that flanked the edge of the clearing where the nest was. It seemed this excursion was only getting more and more dangerous. Maybe going out to look for the dragons wasn't the smartest idea, especially with no knowledge of battle... or with no weapons at all. She debated running, but she couldn't help but want to stay and watch what unfolded.

@TheGreenerGrey

The baby swapped from eating and crying for the entire journey until Slode reached the village walls. By then the Baby seemed to have had its fill as it was no longer crying out for food. Instead it went back to wondering how it got to where it is, off the ground and being carried by.....mother?

@aryamajor

Theoc frowns. He didn't want Ren to leave. A competent Rider is rare among outsiders but if that is what she wants, then he will not stand in her way. "If that is what you wish." He simply said and takes a quick dive towards the edge of the village, near the Dragon Stables.

@Ailis

The Zippleback was out on the hunt and had chosen to prey on the Changewings. The mother doesn't wait for the Zippleback to start as it immediately jumps up to attack the beast. The Zippleback however dodged out of the way of the pounce and the two began a slow but elegant battle with the Zippleback and Mother Changwing making false charges, watching for an opening to attack.

Ren steered Friydem toward the building indicated by Theoc to find a set of stables meant for dragons. She picked one that was sizeable for her teal monstrous nightmare and patted him on the nose. In return, he nudged his head further into her hand, more like a lap cat than anything else, making her laugh. The laugh was shortly ended by her broken ribs reminding her they were still there." Uhg. Alright, alright, I'll be back in abit," she said before glancing up the Theoc. It was obvious he was hoping to change her mind about leaving. "You have good place here. You were wise to stay, but it's not a place for someone like me. I'll go in the morning."

Any normal viking would have jumped at the opportunity to take one of the defenseless babies, but Freydis wouldn't dare take a child from it's mother. Instead, she moved closer towards where the babies were, hand grasping at her bag. There was dragonnip in there, and maybe that would help if the Zippleback got through the mother and tried to get to the babies.

@aryamajor

"Of course." Said Theoc. "If you change you're mind, you may stay as long as you wish. Now I need to go. Your housing will be over there. Near the stables." He points toa plain two-story hut made of wood and straw. "There you and your comrades will stay. I suggest you go find them before night takes over." He says and takes off for one last night patrol.

@Ailis

The Changewing spits out a glob of acid, but the Zippleback quickly dodges the attack, leaving its side exposed. That was the opening the Mother needed and she jumped in for a bite. However the mother neglected the Zippleback's twin heads. While one was distracted, the other immediately spewed a green cloud forcing the mother to take a pause as she coughs and chokes on the gas. The pause was but a second but it was enough for the other head to swing around and light the gas, causing a powerful explosion, throwing the mother Changewing into air, causing her to fall onto the cold dirt with a loud thud, stunning her. The Zippleback sees that the mother wasn't a problem for at least a few seconds. It immediately turned its focus on the babies as it moved in to pluck them from their nest.

Slode grumbled just a little bit as he and his partner made their way back into the village, the large man cradling a dragon that was almost comically small when compared to him. The damn thing had eaten all his dried jerky. He actually liked that stuff, too!

At least the baby had stopped crying. Looking down at it, he saw that it was giving him a... weird look. “Hello.” Slode said almost out of instinct.

Freydis reached into her bag and pulled out the bundle of dragonnip that she had been carrying around, intending to distract the Hideous Zippleback from the babies. She stood to the side and waved her arms wildly above her head, the dragonnip clutched in one of her fists so that most of it was sticking out. She could only hope that the Zippleback's attention was on the dragonnip when she tossed it across the clearing and turned to herd up the babies so she could attempt to save them.

Ren watched Theoc's retreating back and waited until he was out of sight before sighing a breath of relief. Not that she was acting, but he put her on edge sometimes. She marched down the the ale hall and stepped inside, earning a few odd looks which she ignored. If the Owls were already sneaking in, this is where they would start. She ordered a drink as an excuse to sit and observe for awhile but while she sipped, it was easy to see that nothing was happening there. "Bloody theives," she grumbled. Not that she had room to talk. With nothing of suspicion there, Ren bounced out of the bar, red hair springing behind until the bar keep stopped her for payment. "Oh just put it on Theoc's tab," she said brightly, before continuing on her way. Ren wandered to the stables, sticking her tongue out at some passing children who were giving her the eye.
When she made it into the stables, she found Friydem asleep. "Hey, wake up," she said, "We're going out." The sleepy dragon blinked a few times before nuzzling her. "C'mon." After some urging, Ren managed to get the dragon out of his stable. She climbed aboard his back, and held onto the horns from the top of his head. "Alright. Let's go." The first wing beat jarred her ribs, and she hissed as they took the sky, heading north. Who knew what they would see? Dragons...castaways....theives...

@ODSTDRAGON

The Dragon was at first glad then angry at the human that forcefully mounted it, and immediately turned to attack the Viking but was distracted when the Viking threw his Bracket. The Dragon was slightly entranced by the shiny objects and ran to see what it was.
It was nice and gold, with littler smaller dragons on it. He snickered as the dragon got distracted.
“ So how about that loot proposition buddy? Are you game?”

@Ailis

The Zippleback stalked towards the dragon nest. The babies instinctively camouflaged to hide themselves but the Zippleback's smell was better then the baby's hiding abilities as it already had the infants locked in. However when it peered into the nest to pick off the babies, it suddenly distracted by the sudden appearance of a female Viking jumping out and throwing out a handful of dragonnip. The Zippleback's pupils dilate and it immediately goes for the dragonnip. The mother tries to get up but is disoriented from the blast.

@ODSTDRAGON

The dragon was simply checking to see what the viking has thrown. It tries to eat the jewelry, lapping it up with its tongue before chewing it for a bit but immediately spits it out, leaving the gold jewelry chewed and broken. It growls and turns back to the Viking and snarls at the Viking, bearing its teeth and prepares to roar. When it bears its teeth however, the dragon unintentionally reveals that it has what looks to be a piece of a shell stuck in its teeth that was digging into its gums.

@aryamajor

The Nightmare takes to the air and headed north. It was now night and the storm nearly here. The moon was nearly covered in the black clouds, but in the black there was a silhouette of a large dragon with four wings and a long body. On the dragon seems to be someone on the dragon. A humanoid figure just covered by the clouds. The figure wore what looks to be some kind of hood or cloak and it watched Ren. Stared at her before diving into the storm, disappearing as quickly as they were seen.

Blitz saw the deer and shrugged off Garm, who fell to the ground with a ooph. Standing up and rubbing his back side, he looked around as Blitz gorged. The night was upon them and dark storm clouds we're on the way.
It was pretty peaceful, with the only sounds being Blitz tearing the deer to pieces.
Garms peaceful mood was broken when he got this bagginn feeling in the back of his head, his hand went to his knife, he was being watched, by what or who he didn't know, but they we're watching.

Once the Hideous Zippleback turned away, intrigued by the scent of the dragonnip she had thrown, Freydis twisted towards the babies, shooting a sparing glance at the mother laying on the ground to try and assess the situation. The Zippleback probably wouldn't be distracted for long, and Freydis had nothing else she could help them with.

She looked into one of the babies' eyes, the curiosity in theirs matching her own. Then with a heavy heart and a sigh, she twisted on her heels and padded into the forest, making sure to rustle as many branches as she could, hoping that if the Zippleback got over the dragonnip too quickly, it would choose to follow her instead of attack the babies.

@Azathoth

The storm was coming close as thunder boomed in the distance. The clouds blocks out the moon, covering the two in a blanket of darkness. In this darkness however they weren't alone as shadowed figures, hidden by the darkness carrying curved swords and large metal round shields made of wood. They had spotted the two and were preparing to ambush them.

@Ailis

The Zippleback sniffed the nip, but its alluring scent didn't last long. It quickly raised its heads to look around for prey and had lost the scent of the hidden babies. However it heard the sound of the Viking and one medium sized meal is as good as four small bites. The creature chased Freydis with inhuman speed on the ground, slinking across the earth like a snake. No matter how fast she ran the Zippleback was faster, even if it was slowed by the trees and brush. Its elongated necks allowed the dragon to reach out farther then it should and with Freydis exposed it would be able to snatch her up like a morsel if it wasn't for a purple flash that tackled the Zippleback and dragged it into the brush. The Zippleback made horrible sounds of panic as it was dragged away but its screams were silenced by two sickening crunch and was replaced by the sound of animals gorging themselves on meat.

The young Viking could feel the breath from both of the Zippleback's heads, the wet heat making the hair on the back of her neck stand up. Freydis couldn't even panic at that point, and just as she felt the Zippleback get closer, it was gone. The sudden movement behind her distracted her enough for her foot to hit a rock and send her flying forward, the bushes and branches on the ground scraping at her skin. "What in the name of Odin?" She could hear the sound of the Zippleback being eaten by whatever had attacked it, and curiosity made her want to stay and find out what it was, but obviously Freydis' curiosity was not the smartest thing to listen to. Instead, she pushed herself back up onto her feet, brushed her hands off on her trousers, and went on her way. That was a better idea, except, she had no clue where she was.

Riding the edge of a storm this high in the air was quite a sight. She could see the big grey clouds rolling in and the occasional thunderboom rattle through the sky. Rather than lightning, it was a shadow she and witnessed. That of a cloaked rider and a four winged dragon. The two of them seem to lock eyes for a moment though both were too far away to actually see each other's faces properly. She didn't have to see their face to know that they were trouble. Bad news always had a certain attitude and as the stranger Rider dove back into the clouds, a feeling of knowing settled into her stomach. Who were they and what did they want? Who knew. The only thing that was important was the moment they acknowledged each other. Every instinct she had told her to head out towards the ocean and not to look back. So why was she turning back to the village? Who knew ."Damnit...stupid druids....scavengers...we've got to move fast Friydem. C'mon."

Friydem sped his pace from a gentle glide on the storm eddies, to pushing faster with the wind and ahead of the storm. Ren kept her scanning above and below, looking for any signs of other Riders.

Garm swore as a bolt of lightning flashed and revealed the armed attackers. He couldn't deal with these on his own. Luckily he wasnt on his own, hearing a growl from behind him he ducked, expecting a bolt of lightning, instead a woosh was heard above him and something heavy hit the assailants in front of him.
He looked up and saw that the deers carcass had slammed into those in front of him knocking them down , feeling g something coming in from behind him he made a judgement call and jumped a dragon head went between his legs and he was on Blitz back before he knew it.
She used tjt opening and took off, stepping on the acceleration she speed as fast as she could towards the storm, hoping to seek refuge.

@Ailis

Freydis pushes back the bush to see a trio of purple dragons with yellow eyes, snake like bodies, spiky horns and spines running down their back. The Zippleback's heads had been entirely removed as the three dragons had already consumed that part and had now gorged on flesh and innards. However when Freydis poked her head to look at them, one of the dragons sniffed the air and growled as it turned its devilish blood covered head in Freydis's direction. It kept low to the ground like a wolf on a hunt, and stared in Freydis's direction for a few seconds before opening its mouth and launching a barrage of its own teeth directly at the bush Freydis was hiding in. The teeth were the size of arrowheads and packed as much punch as an arrow loosed by a fully drawn bow.

@aryamajor

The clouds kept Ren from seeing the true threat behind her. She was flying back to the village leaving her exposed to the enemy behind her. From the storm comes out a large four winged dragon, almost as large as Friydem and twice as fast. The dragon zooms right under Friydem allowing its rider, a woman wearing a finely made leather armor and a masquerade mask in the shape of an owl's face, to slash at Friydem's underside with an sword, drawing blood but not enough for it to be anything serious. The Dragon then takes a quick climb before turning around and dive bombing back into the storm, disappearing back into the clouds.

@Azathoth

The ambushers, a team of three were all struck by the unsuspecting deer carcass hitting them. The ambushers weren't out yet however as one of them, the leader of the team, orders the other two to draw arrows. The ambushers fired arrow after arrow at Blitz but she was out of their range before they could even knock their third arrow.

Unknown to Garm, a one armed man walks to the front, scowling at the escaped Rider. He turns back to his men. "Let them go. We're on a different mission. This...just complicates this. So move quickly men! Be as swift as Hermes himself and if we do this correctly then the Scavengers will have victory by dawn." He said as he leads his warriors through the dark forests.
