"Well, you can't go wrong with cinnamon pretzels, y'know?" Dakari chuckled, popping another piece into his mouth. While Ayako talked to Ann and he chewed he perked at the sound of raised voices elsewhere at the fair, turning his head as he stuffed the rest of his pretzel into his mouth he quickly took notice of some students gathering before his brows rose at the sight of a hotdog cart and it's condiments being sent flying.

"Oh...oh shit." He muttered, lucky that he didn't get hit by any stray hotdogs or ketchup. He did flick a slice of pickle off his cheek then, clicking his tongue. It had quickly grown louder with so many people yelling at once, and the blonde shifted from foot to foot at this. He assumed some kind of fight must of happened, and upon getting closer to the scene he could at least see that an adult was present.

Viktor only nodded as she left to investigate the situation, unaware that the wind is not from a natural source. He stood in silence, reflecting on the recent words given to him, feeling more inspired to do better in his training and academics. Just when he is about to recall something else, his train of thought was interrupted by the sound of a suspiciously strong gust, not unlike that of a two-second storm. He turned to the direction from where the auditory disturbance came from, noticing the sight of the gradual formation of a crowd. Mildly curious about this situation, he walked towards the scene, seeking the perfect vantage point to take a good look at whoever was causing the winds.

Standing on top of an empty crate, he could see two students within the crowd, the one with glasses apparently trying to intimidate the younger one, with Aaliyah trying to intervene with the situation. Based on his observations, it is very likely that the student with glasses is the aggressor, a hypothesis that is only reinforced by him taking down a hotdog stand. Becoming cautious about the situation, he began to check his pockets for anything that he could use in case things get out of hand while he observed and analyzed the situation further despite the increasing intensity of the situation. All he had was a blunt pencil and several coins and whether or not they could help should the situation escalate too far is yet to be known. For now, he could only spectate and hope for the best.

@Atomic Knight @EveryoneElse

Rashida actually welcomed the interruption of what seemed to be an escalating scuffle. Pushing herself through the crowd she stopped to try and assess the situation. An itchy trigger finger, or something similar had escalated what could have been an easy situation to solve to a problem not easy to contain. Did these idiots not realize the problems their powers already gave them? How would this look on the news used by those that already considered them abhorrent threats?

As it was she didn't react before she got a better idea about the situation.

"You're laughing. Future job prospects in the drain and you're laughing?" Ann remarked to Ayako. "You know why the Glorious- uh...Guy has to do his dumb podcasts? Because nobody wants to touch that! You need to be PG for anyone to actually hire you. I've read up on this and it's a real issue!" Ann didn't get much further though before they were interrupted by a gust of wind and ruined corn dogs. The ensuing wind was strong enough to stretch Ann's upper-body before making her slam face first into the ground. "I...I'm okay," She groaned.

Arthur - Hot Dog Incident

Okay, clearly breaking out his powers to scare the kid hadn't been the smartest move, Arthur thought. Still, he wished everyone would give him some slack. He made one blunder and suddenly everyone was royally pissed off at him. He was seriously just blowing some wind around so it was hardly dangerous and worthy of Professor Taylor to make such a big deal out of it.

Some other guy was now barreling at him, looking ready to toss him around. It took Arthur a moment to recognize him as Tommy. Though they had been shadowing the New Guard together the past month, the pair of them were hardly friends. "Why are you being such a little dick?" Tommy grunted. Arthur tried not to laugh at the mustard stain on his shirt.

"Oh, come on," Arthur muttered. "You're not even involved."

"You got me involved once you threw a hot-dog at me!" Tommy exclaimed. "What I went over there and shocked you or some shit?"

Professor Taylor let out a vexed noise and was now fixing Tommy an unimpressed look. "No," she said. "No more powers."

Arthur could see now that officer Gill had now arrived and was hovering nearby. He was telling some of the students to get back, including some of the onlookers. Perhaps there could be more heat on these other guys if things went right for Arthur.

"What were you hoping to do, huh?" Arthur said to Tommy. "You think I would let you even touch me?"

"Perhaps," Rashida finally spoke up walking closer to the two bickering boys. "We should all walk away before this escalates beyond a situation that can not be handled by just words."

First, she looks at Arthur. "Take the L, and go." Then at Tommy. "You don't matter in this entire situation. Disappointing your clothes got dirty, but I can show you how a washing machine works. Yes?"

@Atomic Knight

"C'mon, up you get," Ayako grunted, helping Ann back to her feet as the jocular air of the festival was quickly replaced with a tense unease. As she, Ann, and Dakari stood before the scene, instigated by one Arthur.

The young woman stared quietly at the scene with narrowed eyes. If this were just a few years ago, she would have been described as hardly the kind of person who would jump into a situation like this, but admittedly, the academy's curriculum had to rub off on her at some point. She was here to be a hero, after all, like everyone else.

She moved her gaze briefly to Professor Taylor, hoping that she'd have everything under control, and with the security officer gesturing students to remain back, it wasn't like she could do much to intervene if she even wanted to.

To Ann, she gave a wry look. "At least I'm not as ill-tempered as that guy. Really, you should be grateful."

Aaliyah - Hot Dog Incident

"I'm sure you're loving this," Tommy said to Rashida with a sneer.

Aaliyah found the situation vexing, but managed to find some level of outward calm. She was thankful that Rashida was keeping her cool, though she was bound to make the situation worse if talking like that. At the very least, Aaliyah was thankful Rashida had not used her powers to intervene and it seemed that the other students had listened to her, more or less. It would be clear to anyone looking that Aaliyah was looking pretty exhausted.

"Your first instinct should never be to use your powers to solve a problem," she said, moving to help the younger student off the ground. She meant it to reprimand Arthur, though he was in trouble for more than just using his power in an unsafe manner. "It's just safer that way." She frowned at the younger student. "What's your name?"

"Miguel Ángel," the kid muttered in a small voice.

"Okay, Miguel, come with me and I'll let the nurse check you up. And you..." She looked at Arthur. "You're off to see Carl." Arthur rolled his eyes and let out a sigh as he walked away. Carl was a part of the school's security and handled a large majority of the student punishments. Other students were giving Arthur glares as he passed but they knew better than to make a scene at this point.

Aaliyah began to escort Miguel to the main building but made a point to stop by officer Gill, who was shooting a warning look at the other students.

"Get your team to start escorting students away from the fair," she said to the officer. "It's about time for the day to end." The officer nodded and walked past her.

Saturday, October 18, 2042 - Sylvite Dorm

The festivities of the day before had ended a bit earlier than intended thanks to Arthur's outburst and the proceeding fallout of that incident. The wind Courser had been reprimanded and was facing a couple of detentions, but the damage had not been severe enough that he was not able to return to his dorm a couple hours after the fair. Considering he was not known for this behavior and that his parents were particularly active Courser activists, the school did not generally consider him a threat.

There was someone who was particularly unimpressed with his behavior however.

"You have seriously got to be kidding me!" a girl exclaimed, her voice loud enough to extend beyond the Sylvite Dorm's common room. A couple students poked their heads in to see what was going on, only to see Arthur and a girl with long, black hair arguing. Well, it was more like she was arguing at him.

"Min-a, can we not do this here--" he began to say, but the girl interrupted him.

"Oh, gee, sorry, don't want people to know the kind of guy you are. This is the third time now you've tried to flex on someone with your powers. You really think the New Guard would want a guy like you! You're not the kind of guy I thought were, huh?"

Min-a let out a frustrated noise and turned away. She took a couple steps before sighing and pulling her arms into the body of her large, green sweater.

Arthur looked around at anyone gawking and shook his head. "Sure, everyone, take a picture while you're at it."

A couple students did indeed have their phones out.

"This is ridiculous," Samantha said flatly. It seemed to her Arthur deserved a harsh talking to but this was hardly the space for it. "Go outside if you're gonna keep yelling."

"It's fine," Min-a responded. "I'm done." She plopped herself down on one of the couches, ignoring Arthur's stammering retorts. Eventually he let out a scoff and turned to head back to his room.

Viktor peeked from his dorm room's door, curious about whatever might have happened outside. He had heard some raised voices in the middle of a target practice session but was too occupied with it to respond in time. When he got to peek from the door, he could only see the aftermath of an argument, which led him to retreat into his room in mild disappointment. "The typical day, time flowing as always," he muttered to himself as he pocketed the freshly reloaded BB gun and traded its place with the smartphone that lay on top of the drawer which held his belongings. He then tidied up the fallen targets, arranged them to the shelf where they are typically stored, and sat down on his partially tidy bed to check for any important emails, messages, or online announcements. Due to the incident that occurred yesterday, he hopes that no similar occurrences would occur for the rest of the week; but regardless, always being prepared for conflict wouldn't hurt, just as always.

JOHN SPOONER
@Atomic Knight @Anyone Else

“...fuck...”

John rolled over in his bed, he really didn’t want to wake up at this time, but shouting and gunshots awoke him.

He couldn’t care less about the gunshots, he knew that was Viktor’s dorm and yet he could still fucking hear it every morning.

This is normal, but John hadn’t gotten used to it. He still wants to go home.

He curls over, trying to drown out Arthur, Sam, and Min-a’s shouting.

He doesn’t know if any of his dorm-mates are still around, but he still lays there, hoping that something else doesn’t wake him up.

While the other students seemed eager to watch the drama that was unfolding before them, Rashida felt awkward, one could even call it a secondhand embarrassment. A lover’s spat was of no concern except for the two that it was happening to and no one else. At the same time, Rashida felt like she couldn’t just walk away from the situation since everyone else around the area was just standing there watching. No doubt, that would garner another round of discussion surrounding her. So instead, she waited until it seemed that the argument finished before going on her run. That whole situation made her lose a whole ten minutes off Rashida’s schedule. That meant she needed to pick up the pace.

“Oh boy a lover’s spat,” Ann whispered over to her roommate Ayako as she inconspicuously looked over as if she was the only one keeping an eye on the situation. “This is exactly what I mean about bad language and a code of conduct,” Seemed like she wasn’t done with the discussion from yesterday. “There’s a lot of pressure on us to do our best if we want a good job when we leave this place. I mean…” She turned fully towards Ayako now letting the argument happen behind them. “I suppose you could go indie but can you name me one team that’s made it big by doing that?”

"Sure everyone, take a picture while you're at it."
Upon hearing that, Benny looked around at the small crowd, then quietly locked and lowered his phone until things cooled down. He had failed to notice there was an argument going on right then, as he'd been too busy trying to clear this level of Kastle Krash. But maaaaybe that could wait until after the public fight finished up...and once it did, Benny was right back to playing. You'd think the fair would've reduced tensions, not increase them...

Fortunately in her dorm room, Melody had been fortunate enough to avoid the entire thing. Headphones on, laying on her bed, she was busy drawing something in her sketchbook. That something being a small flowerpot on her windowsill, one Benny had given her as a gift about a year ago. "Maybe it'd help to have something living you can take care of!" Benny had said, the day after she'd confessed to him her own fears about having a family or even just owning a pet with these damned powers of hers. But she'd managed to keep the little succulent alive for this long, which had helped her feel a bit better about her situation. Either way, just drawing a silly little sketch of it was a nice way to pass the time.

Morgan Jones

Morgan was disappointed that the fair had ended before he had even gotten to show any of his card tricks. He had worked so hard on that deck and it hadn't even gotten one use. So, he had taken to just playing solitaire with the cards and had fallen asleep and taken a nap. He had been woken up to the arguing happening in the main lobby. He walked over to the fight and heard Arthur's sarcastic remark about taking a picture. " You know, someone might one day take you up on that offer."

@Atomic Knight @Arthur

Nathan Stone

Nathan hadn't even gotten the chance to talk with either of the people he had wanted to at the fair. He wasn't sure what was worse, that everyone had focused on Arthur and Tommy or that very few people had gone to comfort Miguel. He had learned the dorm map and found the dorm that Miguel stayed in. He would knock on the door. " Hey Miguel, you in there? You holding up well?" Nathan had never been much of a good conversatonist.

@Atomic Knight

Arthur shot Morgan a displeased look. "Well, yeah, I'd hardly be surprised," he muttered. "Everyone here is totally overreacting if you ask me."

Morgan may had been on Arthur's 'team' but Arthur barely held any of them in much high regard. He was fairly sure they all thought him a useless guy who wouldn't ever make it to the New Guard. "Whatever," Arthur eventually said, continuing to his room and leaving his girlfriend alone.

As for Nathan, unfortunately for him, Miguel was not in the dorm room. Whether that was due to the incident at the fair or some reason was unclear...

October 22nd

In the days that followed the fair, it was business as usual for the majority of students at Arthur Grey's. The seniors, or at least those who were currently in training for the New Guard, were waiting patiently until they could get back to work. With the mall incident from earlier in the month behind them now, it was not long before they would be called in again.

On the 19th of October, a member of Seattle's City Council by the name of Isaac Hughes was set to do a talk in support of a pro-Courser charity. That day, Hughes had been targeted by a failed assassination attempt and the vehicle he had been set to travel in exploded via a car bomb of some sort. The bomb had gone off without Hughes being even near it, though few believed he was out of danger.

Isaac Hughes was known for being particularly in support of Coursers, even among the other council members who were generally on the side of Courser sympathy. He had become a symbol of disdain for anti-Courser groups who made claims that he regarded Courser lives above others and that he secretly had powers himself.

The event on the 19th had been canceled, though Hughes insisted they reschedule for he did not want to allow hate to beat him. Or so he said. In just three days, Hughes was to attend once again, but this time things were different. He had requested that Coursers be added to his usual security detail as a show of trust between himself and Coursers.

The New Guard had been tracking the source of the bomb for the last few days and hoped that another event meant that those who wanted to hurt Hughes would come out into the open. Of course, they would have their hands full investigating, so the in-training students were assigned to protect Hughes.

Due to his rash actions, Arthur had been barred from attending any New Guard activities until the end of the month, which only infuriated him once it seemed something new was coming up.

The charity event was to be held at the Gwendolyn Concert Hall, with Isaac Hughes coming in near the end to give his support. The event had an air of unease about it, for few felt entirely sure about what could happen after the attack on Hughes a few days earlier. It was generally believed that an attack on the event itself was unlikely, though no one could truly say for sure.

The building was essentially divided into two halves, where the main building housed the actual event and a side building to hold team members and anything that needed to stay behind the scenes. It was the side building where Hughes, his security detail, and the in-training students were to wait, the majority of them packed into a dining room that was currently not being used.

"Is everyone settled?" echoed the voice of Aaliyah Taylor into everyone's ears via a communicator. A few had already met her as the new professor at the school, though she introduced herself the day before the mission as their New Guard contact. "We have New Guard members within the main building in case something happens there, but you guys don't have to worry about that. Focus on Mr. Hughes."

After a moment, Aaliyah spoke again. "Oh, and I have one of your classmates with me. Min-a won't be joining you guys on the field, so she's shadowing me and whoever I rotate out with." Min-a's power had very little utility on the field, leaving her to train with the New Guard in a different way.

"This is stupid. Whatever, let's just get this over with," Ayako grunted. Though her cantankerous attitude might have been considered routine by others, she seemed particularly irascible today even by her usual standards. None too eager to even be here for whatever reason, the dark-haired woman placed a hand on her hip. "Nothing's even gonna happen, I bet."

"Be professional. This is an important job we have on our hands," Kylie responded to Ayako, matching the latter's attitude with rectitude. To Aaliyah, Kylie spoke next. "We're all good here, I think. Please keep us updated if anything about the situation changes."

"Kylie's right," Sam said to the others, looking overly concerned. After Arthur went and got himself in trouble, she worried that it would impact their performance on this mission. A part of her was rather upset that another student's foolish actions might impact her future in some way.

Meanwhile, Hughes himself simply remained silently where he was. His expression indicated a feeling of agitation or uneasiness; one might have imagined it was natural given the tense situation he was in, despite the fact that he was the one who insisted the charity go through, and for his security detail to be accompanied by Coursers in the first place. If there was something else on his mind, he wasn't about to let anyone else know what it was. There were other, more important things at stake here, and he had to stay focused.

Before- Morgan Jones and Nathan Stone

Morgan looked over at him. " I'm not sure that everyone is overreacting as much as you think," he added, making that as a final comment as well.

Morgan wasn't sure how he had gotten such a selfish teammate. He knew that not many people believed he could make it, but hey, even though his powers were fickle, they did seem to work for the most part. That was a lot better than some of their classmates who had less control.

Nathan wasn't sure what to make of the situation that Miguel wasn't in his dorm room. He hoped that he would be able to get a chance to talk with him.

October 22nd

Morgan had learned better than to think that nothing would come out of the charity's prior bombing. He was on his guard and he had to wonder what would go wrong. He wasn't sure who he wanted to talk too. He had had a nice conversation with Tommy and would look to see if he could spot the other man to talk. He needed to do something to pass the time.

Nathan was very good at noticing. It wasn't one of his powers, but when your powers included stealing the power of others to use, well, you had to catch the little tells. He would look over at the man they were going. " You don't look like you are doing so hot right now? Something else on your mind or anything that we should know that."

@Atomic Knight @Everyone

Rashida was watching Hughes as a hawk. He was the assignment and if something where to happen to him it would be all over for all them one way or another. As Nathan stepped up talking to him like he was a perp being grilled by the police. "What he is trying to say, sir," Rashida remarked to Hughes with a court, professional tone in her voice. "If you have any concerns with our current situations we'd gladly listen to any criticism if it will help improve the current situation."

Ann always tried to pull a code of conduct and proper dress and all of that, she hated these big official assignments. Her anxiety shot through the roof. What if she does something bad and gets reprimanded? That would make her a hypocrite! Thank God Ayako was around to be cantankerous. That meant she could focus on a specific problem and shut every other stray thought down. "Even if nothing happens," She replied putting her hand on Ayako's shoulder. "We need to be on top of regardless." She smiled. "The better job we do, more golden stars for us, right?"

@Atomic Knight @Ver @Lucky @Everybody

Cain listened and watched those in the group as they either talked to Mr. Hughes or made guesses on if anything would happen or not. Personally, he hoped the chances of anything happening were slim. There was no telling how things would go though.

"Ann's right, y'know," Dakari spoke up as he glanced to Ayako, "besides it doesn't hurt to be extra careful." He added. Sure, it was a bit boring but as long as everyone was safe so far he didn't quite mind.

@Atomic Knight @Ver @Lucky @Jeremi @Everyone

Nathan knew that he really needed to work on his communication skills when it came down to things. Being guarded against being hurt his whole life would sometimes make him come off as too jaded or too robotic. And other times, being too direct made him sound like a cop from those old programs he watched at night to kill the time. He knew that it wasn't studying or for that matter incredibly realistic, but whenever he got nervous, he would slip into that mode entirely by accident. " Yes, I apologize profusely for how I phrase the question. I have a bad habit of sounding like a cop or someone in a police show whenever I get too nervous. I also tend to babble, but yes, what my classmate just said is exactly what I was trying to say, except nicer."

@Atomic Knight @Ver @Jeremi @Takumi

"Noted," he muttered in response to the message Aaliyah Taylor had sent through the communicator. Today is October the 22nd and an event is bound to happen at the Gwendolyn concert hall. Viktor is among those who are currently within the side building's dining room, together with his colleagues and the pro-Courser Seattle City Council member Isaac Hughes, as well as the official's security.
While most of the others were likely paying attention to either Hughes or their fellow colleagues or interacting with each other, Viktor had isolated himself from the majority of the group, preferring to observe the rest of the surroundings to check for anything worthy of suspicion. He observed in silence with a hand in his jacket's pocket, as if holding on to a concealed weapon. He will continue to do so unless interacted with or prompted to do something else.

"Whatever happens, always be prepared," he conditioned himself within his thoughts, recalling the bombing incident he found about online a few days prior. As of this moment, he'd rather be ready to face the worse than to hope for the best, as grim as such a thought may seem.

To Nathan and Rashida, Isaac Hughes gave a brief, sidelong glance. As charismatic as he came off in his public appearances, often speaking so passionately without pause about what he believed in, it seemed that it didn't extend quite as much when he wasn't on a stage. Still, he tried as best as he could to be courteous to those who were assigned to protect him, shaking his head slightly. "N-No, it's nothing you need concern yourself, young man, young woman. Thank you," he spoke.

For some reason or another, he gazed briefly at a far corner of the room where some of the other Coursers and guards stood in wait, before speaking again. "My convictions for a world where Coursers and normal humans can co-exist will never waver, but... I suppose sometimes I do wonder, in the grand scheme of things, how much progress have we truly made over the past few decades? Normal humans were hardly capable of getting along with each other back then, and yet..." Hughes trailed off, before shaking his head. "My apologies, pay no attention to me. I'm just... thinking aloud."

Meanwhile, it seemed that Ann's chipper attitude wasn't going to be enough to pierce Ayako's moodiness today. Not even flashing a devilish smirk in response, Ayako instead roughly pulled away from Ann, crossing her arms. "Whatever. I'd rather eat shit than depend on a guy like him for anything. Who does he think he is..." She muttered, pausing for a moment pointedly before continuing after Dakari pitched in his two cents. "Well, it doesn't matter how I feel anyway. I'll play ball if I really have to..." The dark haired girl grunted, averting her gaze from the two.

Rashida forced a smile. “Considered it done, sir.” Now she knew something bigger was going on. A guy like that just doesn’t start waxing poetic about what was one of his main missions as a politician. She kept it to herself for the time being though. Rashida didn’t want to come off as a nag or a worrywart. Instead, her conviction to keep an eye on the man grew even stronger. Anywhere he went she’d follow. He was right though, humanity hadn’t gotten far in regards to prejudice or hurting one another. Their focus had just shifted. There had been some progress though, and if someone was out to stomp out even that then Rashida was going to be there to stop them.

“Man, what crawled up your butt and died?” Ann finally remarked after Ayako was done with her little rant. “I mean, it kind of does matter how you feel because if the team can’t rely on you because of something we’re all in big shi- big doodoo. But-” She raised her hands to signify her backing off. “You’re my friend and I know you can get the job done despite your…friendly attitude.”
