Stahlhiem: College of Magic (Rebooted!) IC

Tashunka - Dorms

"Don't fix him up. You see what he did? I mean he attacked a pregnant women." Tashunka said trying to convince the Void Born to let the baby suffer. When Tashunka saw his efforts to bring more pain to Thal were useless he decided to head for the dorms. At first sight Tashunka thought he was the first person to make it to the dorms, but as he wandered toward a room at the end of the hallway he passed by some of the other students. They must have run away during the fight. Can't really blame them it was rather confusing. Tashunka thought to himself as he entered his new room. The room was a lot smaller than Tashunka's usual sleeping arrangements, but he would make do. I will have to move that bed or I could destroy it. Tashunka continued to ponder how best to set his new room up.

After the tense experience the rest of the night went by quietly. The Void Born took Simon and Thal to the infirmary to be treated, while the rest of the students were trapped in their dorms for questioning by the Void Born. Eventually it was time for sleep. Most of the students fell asleep quickly, some where just tired and others simply wished for the next day to start.

In the morning the students wake up to find that goblin Servants had brough each one of them a small wooden chest of supplies for the day. An inkwell, a feather quill, a set of grey robes, cheap leather boots and gloves, a journal, a large thick book titled 'Basic Introductory to Magic' as well as the weekly allowance of 100 crowns. The robes were decently comfortable, and were tailored to fit each of the students of all races, but the boots and gloves were tough and scaly. In the infirmary, those first years students who managed to get themselves injured somehow also got the a case of the basic supplies.

After a hearty breakfast of stuffed eggs, chicken pie, nut bread and spiced ale, the day had begun. The students all go to their classes with a Void Born escorting the first years to Master Wijk's room. A large classroom with enough tables and seats for 20 students. There are no windows however, so the room is lit by a large chandelier. In the front of the room is the teacher's desk with a large stack of papers and a number of books, as well as a bowl of dried insects and raw nuts. Behind the desk is a large chalk board with the lesson of the day 'Magic and how to channel it.' As the students walked in, Borghild perked up. Standing from her chair and taking her position in front of her desk so all the students can see her.

"Ah hello class. It's very good to see you. Come in, come in. Take your place in any seat. Don't be shy, don't be shy. I'm not going to bite." She said rather playfully as the students began to take their seats.

Audrey, First year Classroom

When she entered the room she quickly went to the front of the room. Audrey always sat in front. She hoped that her assertiveness wouldn't offend, but knew that those in front of a class succeeded. Pulling out her supplies and quill. She sets her hands on her journal and waits. She finally looks to see if Parpar and Mikida followed her lead.

Simon - First Year Classroom

Simon walks into the room carrying an over sized backpack he slowly walks towards a chair near the front nearly being trampled by a long haired woman quickly taking the seat he wanted. Simon sighs walks towards the seat next to her then sees her look for something or somebody behind her back before noticing Simon sitting next to her and giving an irritated look. Simon takes out a Quill, Brush and Bottle of ink, he takes out a book labels the front Master Wijk with the brush. He takes the pen, opens the first page writes "Magic and how to channel" it then intensely focus on the teacher waiting for her to speak.

Audrey, First year Classroom

Mikida, despite getting a full night's sleep, in addition to her multiple naps, still managed to be tired come class time. However, despite her clear lack of attention, she still follows around Audrey like a shadow. Though Audrey expected Mikida to follow her lead, Mikida perhaps takes it further than she might have hoped. Mikida sits on her lap just like she did at lunch. Mikida sits sideways as to allow Audrey to reach her notes, though Mikida completely lacked materials of any kind.

Tashunka - First Year Classroom

Full of delicious food and ready to learn Tashunka followed the other students into Master Wijk's classroom. Taking a set in the middle row Tashunka pulled out the book he had received this morning. After getting comfortable Tashunka examined the classroom with interest. Are we going to be doing something with those bugs or are they for eating? Why don't they have any windows? Could I have brought some food with to class? Tashunka asked himself wishing that the class would start, so he could ask his questions and start learning.

Parpar - First Year Classroom

Parpar was reluctant to put on the extremely drab robe, but wearing it beat risking his own clothing to some mad wizard with too much fire on his mind. His gloves, however, were fine enough to bring with him over the cheap leather ones in the chest, with patterns of yellow and orange dyed into the leather itself. Breakfast was marginally better than dinner, but it still lacked the flavour and spice of the Alttanin homelands. He was careful to stay away from those involved in the last night's fight, and more towards Tash, Mikla, and Audrey. He put his inkwell, journal, and book down on the desk to the left of Tash, absent mindedly flipping the feather in his hand as he waited.

Coro- First year classroom Aine- Same place as always

Coro skips into class with the new robe now decorated with flowers and sits next to simon waiting with anticipation. 'I wonder what this will be like ive never been in one of their classes before its certainly looks different then home.' 'This place will never be like home coro most of the people within the kingdoms are to far gone to ever return to nature' Coro looks over to simon and taps him on the shoulder and points the the board. "what does that say..?"

Simon - First Year Classroom

Simon was tapping his notebook impatiently when Coro tries to get his attention. He gives an irritated look before realizing what she just said "Wait?" he says in confusion "You can't read. Why would you go to someplace like this if you can't even read?!?"

Borghild- 1st Year Classroom

Master Wijk clears her throat at Simon's outburst. "Excuse me kind sir, but I would rather you focus on your own studies rather then the lady's. If she is capable of studying in her own way then so be it, otherwise she can study underneath a senor student." She walks over to Mikida and Audrey and addresses the two. "Now Young Lady I do not know how your guardians raised you back home, but I expect that you act like a proper student before I call the over the guards to restrain you to the dorms until further notice." She walks back to the front of the class and opens up the large textbook given to the students. "Now students, I know that this is the first day of class, so we shall get right into it. Please open your books to Chapter 3 Page 3." The page contains the chapter's title "The Risks and Rewards of Enchantments" This is what we shall learn for the next week. The very first magical feat you shall achieve is to create a conduit for yourself. She behind the desk and over to the chalkboard. She began writing down and drawing notes and small diagrams explaining those notes.

"Now a conduit is an item enchanted by a mage that acts as sort of a filter. Magic within a mage can be considered water and the mage a river itself. Normally the river cannot control how much water will flow through it at a time. When it rains, more water might flow through with startling force, and when there is a drought, water flows to a trickle. Now there are some who are capable of having more control over how much magic they use at once, I, the Headmaster and Master Pauelus are some examples. However we have guarantee that you will be able to control your magic perfectly so you are instructed to create a conduit, not for your own safety but also for that of your peers. Now a conduit is an item, usually something easy to hold in a mage's hand, a staff, sword or wand, that absorbs magic from the mage then releases a defined amount at one's command. Think of a conduit as a dam, that stores water from the river and when you need it, you can control how much water you release at a time."

The teacher continues to lecture as students took notes and listened.

First year Classroom

Mikida thinks on the teacher's words for a while, but ultimately decides to continue sitting where she is. Although Mikida does an acceptable job of simply paying attention, she still hasn't pulled out her book or notes. Instead, she looks on at Audrey's. Although she still had the impression of being sleepy, she didn't bob her head or do anything to suggest that she wasn't paying attention.

Audrey First Year Classroom

Audrey accepts Mikida in her lap and gentle hugs the girl.

Master Wijk walks up and attempts to chide us, but Audrey ignores her. Mikida must come from a culture that allows her actions. Audrey writes every sensible word out of the Master’s mouth. She even draws the diagrams. When the lecture dulls, she begins sketching a portrait of Mikida’s face. The sketch was plain, but highlighted Midkida’s features. When the lecture picked up pace she resumes taking notes.

Tashunka - First Year Classroom

Tashunka listened intently to Master Wijk. Tashunka had an amazing memory which allowed him to focus on the lesson and the teaching. As Master Wijk explained conduits Tashunka's head filled with questions. Raising his hand Tashunka asked one of the many questions he had, "Do we choose the item or are they linked to the school of magic we know? Do I have to use something that uses fire?"

Simon - First Year Classroom

Simon give a sullen look of shame at being scolded. Watching the teacher explain in front. That sad look on his face disappears through out the lecture though as he becomes more and more interested in the subject. "I have so many questions" he says a little too loud once everyone was done speaking. He starts waving his arms around like a mad man "if we get to chose an object like the horse guy said does what we chose make a difference. I mean does size matter or what about the material that we choose?! Do we make it ourselves!? Are certain items more suitable for some types of magic!? do I have to carry a skull now?? can I call him Yorick?!?

He takes a deep deep breath "Can we have multiple conduits??? Are there limits on what we can enchant!?! Do we only choose this once and that's what we're stuck with for all eternity wishing we hadn't committed to such an important thing without even knowing what were getting into but being stuck with this FOREVER!!!!!" Simon randomly deflates then gets up again "Also does the item need to be an object. If we can enchant items to be a conduit can we enchant animals? or people!!! I mean are there any moral limits we should know about? He looks at the teacher intensely eyes wide open pen digging into a small notebook

Bordghild - 1st Year Classroom

The teacher waited until Simon was done with his string of questions she took a deep breathe before running off her own string of answers. "No you do not need specific conduits for specific schools. However some students and teachers have found rather creative conduits, such as Master Surhardt war-horn and Master Haran's towel. No you do not have to make it yourself but it is considered bad form and incompetent if a mage is incapable of doing it themselves. No if you know how to use them any item can be a conduit, such as a lantern could be used for Light Magic, it can also be used for Fire or Death Magic. No you do not have to limit youself to a skill and yes you can name it Yorick if you decide to use a skull. Yes, you can create more then one conduits but it is generally safer to use only one at a time. Yes, there are limits on what you can enchant while you are training in this school, so no firearms, swords and such. No, you are not limited to only one conduit and should one breaks you are responsible on making another conduit for yourself. Yes, you must use an object for now until you become stronger. Yes, it is possible to enchant animals and people. Yes, it is illegal to enchant a sentient being period. Yes, I appreciate your enthusiasm and yes, this is a classroom so I would appreciate if you don't make to much noise as to disturb the rest of the class." She replied in a single breath. She took a stern look at Simon before going back to the chalk board. "Now back the lesson. If there are any questions the kind Sir didn't think to ask, feel free to ask, hopefully with as much enthusiasm but without the volume."

Audrey 1st year classroom

Audrey looks around at the excitement of her class and smiles. She always loved to learn and her brothers treated it like a chore. They would pick on her and try to put her down. Her former destiny had her slotted for marriage to a landed lord; she made sure she knew how to handle the necessities of running a household. Her aim was always education, now she can become her best.

Audrey leans over to Simon and whispers, "they have a huge library."

1st Year Classroom

Mikida sits through the lecture with a growing look of disinterest coming across her face. She starts playing with her hair eventually just as a means of passing the time. However, as the teacher finishes addressing Simon, Mikida voices herself. "What should we do if we already have a conduit? Should I make another one, or do I just keep using my own?" As she says this. Mikida produces a book, seemingly from thin air, to demonstrate her possession.

Coro- first year classroom

Coro opens the book to the right page and stares at the words trying to comprehend there meaning and shortly gives up and just listens to what the teacher says with great interest.

Emi -class room-:
*No one notices me in the back as I copy every word the teacher speaks word for word and the pronunciations* "Y-uhs" *I try speaking the language (quietly) and using their pronunciations and corresponding with a dictionary of their people correcting my spelling and grammar* *I then write down the diagrams and what they mean while comparing the multi lingual dictionary to figure out the equivalent of the Veradantkin language to the peoples spoken language of the college and learning quickly the reading portion but struggling on the pronunciation. All this happens within the first fifteen minutes of class as I sit quietly in the back teaching myself their language while listening attentively*

Borghild - 1st Year Classroom

Master Wijk turns around and when she saw Mikida still sitting on Audrey's lap she frowned. "If you have a conduit already, then you still need to make your own and submit them both for me to inspect. Also Young Lady-" Borghild waves her hand and a Mikida was whisked away with a ghostly chill and easily placed into an empty chair. "Place do not test my patience. I may be a soon to be mother, but even I have my own limits when it comes to misbehaving children." She also turned to look at Emi "And you, the Verdantkin in the back muttering to herself. Please do yourself a favor and attempt to make it on class the next day. It's considered bad form and there will be consequences if this behavior continues." Having dealt the public humiliation of the two Master Wijk it was time for to teach and tell the students what their first task shall be.

"Now to properly turn an item into a conduit, you need to use bind magic into whatever item wish." Borghild reached underneath her desk and pulls out a pitcher of water to use in the demonstration. "First you need to place the object onto a flat surface. Next you need to have a clear vision of how and what you want your conduit to do. Then..." Master Wijk began to channel black Death magic into the pitcher. The object began to absorb the magic and entire pitcher began to glow, even the water seemed to shimmer as the enchantment process began. "Channel whatever type of magic you wish to specialize or you're most comfortable with into the conduit to be, and soon..." After a minute of channeling the pitcher seemed to explode with a black light as the process was done. When the light fades, it seemed that the process didn't work as the pitcher looked as it did when the Master started the enchantment, much to many of the student's disappointment. However their attitudes changed when Master Wijk took the pitcher and poured the water out onto the floor and much to the student's surprise there was no longer water inside the pitcher but the harrowing fog that moaned and groaned as if a living and suffering being. When the pitcher was empty she placed it back onto the table and continued with notes. "Now that the demonstration is done. I shall explain to you the basics of magic..."

Several hours later, at the strike of 12PM class had ended, but before the students left, Master Wijk had a gift for the students. "Now students before you leave, I wish you take a paper from my desk. It explains the fundamentals and basics of your first task, which is to create a conduit for yourself and present it to me 7 days from now. It also acts as a permission slip, as well as a map, that allows you go into the main city without any sort of guard or escort until the due date. This is my gift to you. Remember you have 7 days. I wish you all well, and good day to you."
