Chapter Two
"Into Darkness"

"Now!" Burnham yelled, slamming her hand down on the emergency door button and putting a barrier between the group and the creatures. They began to thump and scratch against the door. They would soon break through, if not for the next step in the process.

On Burnham's signal, the bridge crew opened up the hangar bay doors to the open space beyond. The rapid depressurization of the hangar bay rapidly pulled the creatures and everything in the hangar out into space, though no one behind the door could see this. Judging by the look on Burnham's face, however, the plan went off without a hitch.

"Now we just have to deal with the remaining creatures," Burnham said after a heavy sigh.

"It's all right!" Stamets said over the comms. "I have a plan!"

***

Stamets had relayed his plan to both Burnham and Saru. As long as Stamets was confident in what he was doing, they had no choice but to believe this was our best option.

"Alright, everyone. Black alert. Prepare yourselves, and let's all hope for the best," Saru said plainly for the immediate crew to hear, as well as those all across the Discovery via comm link, settling in the captain's chair in the center of the bridge.

"Ready when you are, Mister Stamets."

With the creature out of the chamber in dead, Stamets stepped inside and hooked himself up to the device inside. "This is the spore drive I was talking about," he explained, his voice echoing throughout the engineering room. Tilly and the other officers worked away consoles, readying the ship to make their jump. The chamber began to fill with what looked like small blue lights and Stamets smiled.

"You're going to love this," he said to Emily and the others, before closing his eyes.

In just a few seconds, everything turned blue.

***

It had only taken a moment, but it soon was as if nothing happened at all. Except, of course, for the fact that all of the creatures had disappeared.

In engineering, Stamets stepped out of the chamber, wiping sweat from his brow. "I think it worked," he said, slowly moving toward his console. Once he saw that Emily and the others were still there, he sighed. "Good news, you weren't left behind. Bad news, reversing the coordinates of the last jump didn't send you home."

He moved to his console, frowning. "Stamets to the bridge, where are we?"

***

"Determining that now, Mister Stamets," Saru responded as the crew was at work to identify anything quantum signatures before one of the helmsmen turned toward the Acting Captain.

"Sir! We've detected a Constitution-class starship in the distance. Getting a reading on it now just to be certain," he said, beginning to scan the new ship as it began to come into sight for those on the Bridge. A tense silence followed as the ship began flying closer to the Discovery; after all, why wouldn't they? Starfleet ships were always aware whenever they were being scanned, and to be randomly scanned by another Starfleet ship would have been a strange maneuver indeed.

Eventually, the helmsman looked back at Saru, shaking his head solemnly. "It's... It's no good, sir. The quantum signatures don't match our ship's. Even though we're back in a dimension, it's not precisely ours."

Saru pursed his lips slightly, troubled by the news, but he knew that this was hardly any time to stop now. "Understood. For our next course of action, I think--" he began.

"Captain! The ship's beginning to hail us! Should we accept and communicate with them?"

Saru hesitated for a moment, before nodding. "Patch them in. Let's hope they aren't anything like the Terrans. Burnham, Stamets, be ready for anything."

In short, as for as you were all concerned, while you weren't home just yet, or even those native to the Discovery, it seemed like this was at least a step in the right direction, and with the strange creatures gone now, one could only hope that you could take this moment to at least breathe now.

"For now, bring our guests to the lounge."

***

It wasn't long before Burnham had gathered everyone to the recreational deck of the ship. While the Security Personnel were on clean-up and headcount duty, Burnham addressed the guests. "As a... courtesy for assisting us in saving the ambassador's life, we will allow you your weaponry back. However..." Burnham looked squarely at Vader. "Do watch this man for us. We believe we can trust most of you, so prove that to us by being each other's keeper."

"That's easily the least you can do," Elliot grumbled. "Do we have full access to your ship yet?"

Burnham shook her head. "No. You will have to stay here on this deck of the Discovery. Please understand that we need to know where you all are at any given point in time. Plus, we need to scour the ship to repair damages done by that dangerous species."

With that out of the way, Burnham walked off to the side to communicate with the bridge privately.

Emily clenched her fists, anticipating the jump once more... But, much to her surprise, it was over in mere seconds, although it did make her vision go blue briefly. Other than that though, it looks like they were in one piece, and the threats aboard the ship were no longer there...

Nonetheless, once all was said and done, and they were gathered in some sort of lounge, with their weapons returned, Emily sighed, somewhat relieved that she had her stick back. As mundane as it was, she needed something to channel her powers, and what was tried and true would certainly work better than something foreign on this ship, although in the case of an emergency... She could make an effort.

Regardless, as it seemed to be a time of relative peace for now, she smiled a little... Happy to see that Gumi and Gakupo had re-united successfully, though, she had a little reunion of her own to take care of.

Quietly, she approached Elliot, tapping on his shoulder lightly to get his attention.

DnmYSJD.png

"How are you doing?" She asked him.

Of course, she had gotten answers as to what may have happened to his powers it seems, but she wasn't in too much of a hurry to share them, as they were nothing of note. Really it seemed the ship's crew knew less about what may have happened with Elliot's powers aboard the ship than he himself did. Aside from that though, she wanted to check up on him after this whole ordeal, and... Perhaps hoped that he had at least loosened up a little since the Hangar.

Of the available options, there was a surplus of water, as well as chocolate cake.

"Still aboard this ship with only a fraction of my powers available to me," Elliot said, looking away from Emily. He was staring Burnham down, watching the woman with his arms crossed. "I couldn't be much worse. I presume they said nothing to you about my power?"

Emily just shook her head, sighing a little. Although she noted his apparently focus on Burnham, she didn't say anything about it just yet... As the last thing she wanted to do was set him off again now that he seems to have simmered down a bit.

"They couldn't tell me much. Just that it could be something to do with where the ship is. We were floating in an empty space before that last jump." She said, frowning a little.

Despite the energy she had expended earlier fighting off the ship's intruders, it looks like Emily wasn't too hungry right now... Perhaps her focus on the situation at hand distracted her, as much as this was supposed to be a time to relax and unwind.

“You mean that anyone here could be a giant killer robot and we wouldn’t even know it?!” Sarge asked as he peered across the room, squinting his eyes behind his helmet as he eyed each inhabitant.

Grif wouldn't find much to do in the immediate vicinity, but there were food synthesizers available with an array of food options available for use.

"If I am a victim of this predicament as much as any of you, so are they, should they be here," Starscream adds, "now, let us relax with some refreshments. It seems that your friend Grif is doing so."

Starscream looks at the options.

"SPACE FOOD!!!!" Forgetting the game, Gumi rushed over to the chocolate cake, helping herself.

"Gumi! You can't even-ugh, forget it." At least she was in a good mood. After that horrible zombie encounter, he was glad to be out of danger...and his left leg was still working just fine, so that was good. Just had to be careful till they got home...when they got home.

It has some attachments, but those are only for dire circumstances," he said, as he cut himself a piece of chocolate cake and took some water. He also took out a twinkie. He ate the chocolate cake and took a swig of water. He hoped that the cake and water weren't poisoned or something. He would wait before having his Twinkie.

"I am at a loss for what that means," Elliot admitted, looking at Emily with an expression she might have noticed briefly to be one of worry. In truth, Elliot was very, very worried. He had read a number of books about space and many fantastical adventures out into that great unknown, but it was not something he had ever specifically focused on. Once his powers let him cross the universe in just a single step, what use did he need for knowledge of spacecrafts and the people that manned them?

He hated not knowing what was going on, but not as much as he hated feeling powerless. He had never felt such powerless, not since his time under Mother Comstock's boot and the encounter in Rapture that changed everything. The feeling made Elliot feel downright sick, as if he would throw up at the slightest provocation. It was for that reason he sneered at the others eating the ship's food, though it might have come off as if he was just judging them for their behavior if anyone noticed him looking.

After the initial rage and fear had ebbed, Elliot found a sense of clarity that he hadn't felt in quite some time. He had never had to adapt quite so severely in such a long time, he didn't know if he could do it again. However, he knew he had to. He would use whatever he had to. He would be whatever he had to be. There would be an escape for Elliot; he just had to find it.

"Regardless, some of my power did return, so it's only a temporary problem. Once I have fully recovered, I will be free of all of this."

Zero Two looked at the food on the ship. There was quite a lot of it. Zero Two hadn't eaten in a while and was getting hungry. She looked at the table of food, and grabbed a slice of chocolate cake before coating it in a shitload of honey.

Emily wasn't sure to make of Elliot; of course he had been a bit troublesome in the Hangar, but deep down... There was something more lurking underneath. Perhaps she even saw a little of herself in him, but... Also, something else.

The last thing Elliot mentioned seemed to bring chills to her, as she realized he was sounding alot like another stone keeper she had encountered... One who had fallen victim to his stone's persuasion long ago.

cV6zlAu.png

"Free? What do you mean?" She asked, a look of worry coursing across her face.

Although she had a feeling Elliot was intending to use his powers to their fullest when he recovered, she wasn't sure what he intended to do... Much less where he intended to go, but perhaps there was a better way, than whatever he might be planning.

"Yeah, human food is great, right? I can't digest it or use it as energy or nothing, but I can eat and eat and just clean out this one container in my stomach and then eat more! It's for appearances really, because it would be kinda rude if we were at like a gala or dinner or something and then we couldn't eat! We'd just be like robots and not idols, yeah? And so we have to eat to feel as close to human as possible. We can drink too and empty out the same way!"

Burnham nodded after getting a new command from Saru. She watched the guests for a moment, assessing them. When she felt content at their actions, she moved to leave. "I will report back soon," she said.

Meanwhile, Elliot's brow furrowed. He didn't understand Emily's confusion one bit. "As in, free from this ship and all of the people contained within," he said. His lips puckered in annoyance, for he felt almost offended that Emily did not immediately grasp what he meant. "Free to be who I want and free to do what I want. That is the only thing that truly matters above all others."

He had not been around people for quite some time and did not quite know how to talk to people. He really only knew people from the books he read, but Elliot had soon realized how foolish his books could be. At the very least, he understood the concept of appeasing others or placating them, but never really knew what one was supposed to properly manage such actions. Flaunting his power had gotten him by in Rapture, but what was he to do here aboard this accursed ship?

"This reality is a dark and confusing one. If I am under someone's boot, I can not make sense of it. As I understand it, all individuals wish to make their mark on the world? If that is the case, I don't know why the others are not more desperate to be free of all this themselves." Elliot let out a long sigh when he finished talking. He found himself eyeing both Star-Lord and Nathan. The bigger man had thanked him for helping, but Elliot had never thought of his actions as helping the man. He still didn't. The man was foolish, after all.

Yet, still, Elliot had more to learn about people.

Meanwhile...

After a small while, with the bridge crew of the Discovery finding some interference in communicating with the other ship for some reason they can only hypothesize initially, the other mysterious ship managed to establish communications, the comm channel screen displaying the presumed captain on the front of the bridge. A man with an outfit that sported the Starfleet emblem on his breast, but his uniform was brightly colored; a bright yellow at that, surrounded by a crew of bright blue and red, in comparison to the Discovery who all sported dark blue uniforms.

If they needed any more confirmation that they weren't exactly back home. Not too far, but not close enough.

tumblr_inline_nk7r2pu_GTF1t92dwi.jpg

"This is Captain Kirk of the USS Enterprise. You folks need any help? Looking a little conspicuous all the way out here in the middle of nowhere," the man said, "By the way, what's with those uniforms? A bit old-fashioned, don't you think?"

"That's all... a long story, I'm afraid. My name is Saru; I am the Acting Captain of the USS Discovery," Saru responded, holding his hands together, "It's all... a rather long story, but it's fortuitous that you stumbled upon us like this. We're a bit... misplaced."

Kirk cocked an eyebrow. "How's that?"

"It's... difficult to explain," Saru said unconfidently, unable to exactly phrase his words, until Sarek stood up, having been standing in the back of the bridge for the past few moments before deciding to step forward.

Stepping forward, the Vulcan Ambassador began to speak in place of Saru, in a far more dry and blunt manner. "The crew of this ship and I, among others we've... inadvertently anchored onto our position, hail from... another dimension. One that is hopefully similar to yours, but still notably different."

Kirk blinked in surprise, eyes widening as though taken aback. Not by Sarek's words, but rather, by Sarek himself. "Uh... Ambassador Sarek? How are you...?" The captain trailed off, seeming to be surprised at Sarek's appearance, though the ambassador didn't seem to recognize Kirk. It was his turn to cock an eyebrow, looking at Kirk seriously.

"... Have we met?"

"We just dropped you off at Babel several hours ago. What are you doing here?"

Sarek let out a short breath, feeling as though his words had been ignored by the captain, though he'd admit, the ambassador found it mildly puzzling that Captain Kirk seemed to recognize him. A glimpse into his own future perhaps? Or just a wildly different turn of events? It was difficult to tell, especially with no established stardate.

Before Sarek could respond, a younger man -- looking staggeringly similar to Sarek -- stood up, sporting a light blue uniform and walking next to Kirk, uttering only one word that nearly made Sarek's heart stop, if he were even capable of such emotion.

tumblr_inline_ngqq8vl_OQt1sk47ji.jpg

"... Father."

Sarek's eyes widened briefly, before furrowing his brow, as though surprise morphed into curiosity over the course of a second or two. Once again, before he could even respond, it was then that Burnham appeared on the bridge, only to be met with the image of Kirk and Spock plastered on the screen. The fellow Vulcan's confusion only grew with her appearance, not that Saru, Kirk, or anyone else there might fathom why.

Except for Sarek.

"... Michael?"

Letting out a deep breath, Sarek finally spoke again, finally able to put the pieces together. "Perhaps we'd... do better if we all met aboard the Enterprise and discussed everything calmly. Everything will be made clear soon enough. Wouldn't you agree, Michael? Spock?"

"Fascinating..." Spock, son of Sarek, could only utter, before nodding his head, "Indeed, that would be a logical course of action."

"Yeah, I'm gonna need some catching up to do..." Kirk only grunted.
